Moran Raceway in Beaumont, California is North America’s largest kart track. It
is very fast with 17 turns, 23 feet in elevation changes and an 860 foot
downhill front straightaway. In the Gatorz Karting Cup season opener
ninety-eight entrants signed up, the most in series history.
Jacob Pearlman, 14, made his Junior Rotax debut in the Gatorz Karting Cup.
Gatorz is the largest regional series of the Champ Car Rotax Kart Challenge
Series.

“The field was packed with high caliber racers,” said Jacob’s father
Richard Pearlman. “The Canadian National Rotax Champ was there, along with at
least one state champion, several local club champs, IKF race winners and
several front runners from the IRL Stars of Karting National Series.”

For most of the day Jacob ran with the leaders. “Our goal was a top 5
finish and Jacob earned 5th in the 20 minute qualifying session,” said Pearlman.
“After the 13 lap heat race was over, he was sixth for the start of the main and
in a great position to contend for a top finish.”
Jacob had an excellent start and was running in the lead pack for the first 4
laps of the race. Another competitor attempted to pass and ran into Jacob’s No.
125 DPK Birel. “Both Jacob and his kart went into the hay bales,” said Pearlman.
“My son was not hurt and the kart was okay, but the racing day was over.”
Jacob and his dad made the 160 mile round trip drive to the race from Carlsbad,
California. “I was impressed with our K&N Cold Air Intake System on our GMC
Yukon tow vehicle,” said Pearlman. “Towing was efficient and effortless though
the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains with K&N.”
Jacob enjoyed racing with the Gatorz Rotax series. “The competition is first
class and the Junior Motors are very fast and very smooth,” said Jacob. “I can’t
wait for the next race at the Streets of Willow.”

Sportsman Racer Dan Fletcher has 44 NHRA National event titles, a feat
only 12 other drivers have accomplished. John Force ranks number one and Dan
Fletcher ranks number 13 in NHRA national events overall.

In 2006, Fletcher finished 3rd in Stock Eliminator and had his best year
on record by winning 7 NHRA National events. “My goal in 2007 is to win
championships in Super Stock and Stock Eliminator,” said the Churchville, New
York resident. “I also want to make it to 50 NHRA National event titles.”

From February through November every year, Fletcher spends weeks on
the road. He uses K&N Oil Filters, (HP-3002)
on his 1969 Chevrolet Camaros. “The nut on the bottom of K&N Oil Filters is an
ingenious invention,” he said. “They are very easy to change. Thanks to K&N Oil
Filters my engines have outlasted and outperformed, also after 400 runs between
2 cars in 2006 my engines stayed clean.”
Fletcher is preparing for the season by making improvements and upgrades on his
cars. “We changed the paint jobs and are doing maintenance on the chassis,” he
said. “I’m getting ready for the Winternationals at Pomona in February.”

A relationship that began at the X-games last summer has solidified into a
season long primary sponsorship agreement between K&N Engineering and CPD
Racing.
“K&N is proud to announce our continued support of Lauchlin O’Sullivan and Scott
Putnam in the 2007 Rally America Series and their pursuit of an X-Games
Championship win,” said K&N Engineering Marketing Director, David Vespremi. “At
K&N, we see the rally as an ideal showcase and proving ground for the High-Flow
Technology of our Air and Oil Filters.”

CPD Racing is headed to Michigan for the 2007 Sno*Drift Rally, the
inaugural event in the 10-Round Rally America Series. A field of 50 entrants
will face bitter cold and stiff competition.
“I don’t get to spend as much time driving on snow and ice as most
Midwesterners,” said CPD Racing driver Lauchlin O’Sullivan. “Coming to Sno*Drift
is a unique experience that certainly provides a challenge for me. The last time
I was at this event I finished fourth overall. I really looking forward to some
more seat time at Sno*Drift this weekend.” O’Sullivan is from California.

CPD Racing headed to Rally America Series
Rally is unique in that it presents an environment where a wide array of
elements are present, dust, snow, dirt and gravel. “K&N’s development time with
teams like CPD are just as important as the research and development that takes
place in our laboratories,” said Vespremi. “The cars breathe through a mandated
restrictor plate, just like NASCAR. However, unlike NASCAR, these engines are
small displacement turbocharged engines running high levels of boost that are
essentially highly tuned variations of what a consumer might drive on the
street. For this reason, consistent air flow, low maintenance, durability and
superior filtration are critical in these applications. The development that
takes place as a result of racing with teams like this improves K&N’s consumer
product lines.”
“As we prepare for Sno*Drift, we are very excited about partnering with K&N,”
said O’Sullivan. “We certainly aspire to be the best so it makes sense to use
the best products we can in our race car. K&N makes the finest Air and Oil
Filters and is the true industry leader. We use their products with total
confidence and will do all we can at each and every rally event to make them
proud.”
This sponsorship between K&N and CPD began at the X-Games last summer when
O’Sullivan and Putnam drove their K&N sponsored Subaru to an impressive 4th
place finish. That finish was the highest of any non-factory team. They are
aiming for victory in the X Games this summer, as well as the 2007 Rally America
Championship.
