Golden State Challenge King of California Champion Jonathan Allard was
recognized during the annual GSC Awards at Feather Falls Casino in Oroville,
California.
Jonathan Allard's sprint car
Allard had a great sprint car season in 2006. During 19 races, he had
seven A-main wins, 13 top five finishes, 15 top tens and set a new GSC record
with 10 heat race wins and 10 fast times.

“I just returned from Australia,” he said. “I qualified the fastest out of 74
cars at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway for Outlaws Down Under. Despite a
12.396 quick time, things turned bad during the heat race. I was taken out by a
competitor and my car had a lot of frame damage. The good news is I won the
Piston Cup at Brisbane International Speedway.”
Allard uses K&N Engineering Oil Filters and K&N Carbon Fiber
Air Box Air Filters. “K&N makes the best products, the oil and air filters are easy to use
and maintain. We just wash, assemble and race. What’s interesting was the number
of K&N Air Boxes I saw during the races in Australia. Most of the motor builders
use them.”
Outlaws Down Under is in the record books but Allard said he will try for
another Golden State Challenge title in 2007. The Chico, California resident and
Williams Motorsports built three new cars for the new season. “We built them
from the ground up,” said Allard. “K&N products are on all our vehicles.
”The World of Outlaws Series for Allard kicks off February 23 and 24 at Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway. The GSC Season starts on March 9 and 10 with the Mini Gold
Cup at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway.

Power on the Volkswagen Polo comes from one of the biggest engines in
its class, a 1.6 liter four cylinder unit.
Air Intake System for Volkswagen Polo
K&N Engineering has released a new 69-series Typhoon Air Intake (69-9750TWR)
in red with a wrinkle finish for the 1998 to 2001 Polo with a
1.6 liter engine. See below for specific vehicle applications.
"It is a complete cold air intake," said K&N Performance Kit Manager Bert Heck.
"The K&N Air Filter (RC-9630) mounts under the front of the bumper. This allows
the typhoon to get a consistent flow of cool fresh air for additional power."
The aerodynamic design was made by K&N Engineers to fit the Polo. "The cold air
intake tube comes in two pieces for easy installation," said Heck. "You can also
remove the lower cold air intake tube and clamp the filter on the upper tube
of the intake kit. This positions the K&N chrome top air filter higher in the engine during bad
weather."
It takes about an hour to
install this kit
with simple hand tools. K&N Typhoon Systems add both engine performance and
under the hood aesthetics. The 69-9750TWR powder coated wrinkle red Typhoon Air Intake is a very popular
color for the Polo.
The 69-9750TWR will fit the following Volkswagon Polo models:
2001 VOLKSWAGEN POLO 1.6L L4 F/I - Type 6N
2000 VOLKSWAGEN POLO 1.6L L4 F/I - Type 6N
1999 VOLKSWAGEN POLO 1.6L L4 F/I - Type 6N, Exc., 75BHP
1998 VOLKSWAGEN POLO 1.6L L4 F/I - Type 6N, 120/125BHP
Promotions in the world of racing come with recognition and responsibility. Last
year Laura Poorter drove for K&N Engineering’s Driver Development Campaign in
the Ford Focus Midget Series.

“At K&N we were trying to determine the best path for Laura’s growth,” said K&N
Engineering’s Sports Marketing Director Charles Maier. “We wanted to bring her
up into midgets to continue her progress. Laura has the lap record in the Ford
Focus class at Havasu and has the ability to drive fast. She shows promise.”

The 17-year-old Holland native is delighted with her new spot on the
racing circuit.
There are a lot of emotional and physical layers to have what it takes to become a
professional racer.
“The commitment on all these different levels and the
willingness to do what it takes to get there is important,” said Maier. “Laura
is learning first hand to accept imperfect situations and to push through. We
hope to continue moving Laura up through the racing ranks.”
During the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Irwindale Speedway Poorter started dead
last, but managed to pass more cars than anyone else. “Her aggressiveness, along
with learning how to overtake other drivers is something she is addressing,”
said Maier. “Laura is very smooth.”
As she moves up to the No. 60 car, Poorter will compete on bigger tracks. So
far, she’s raced on 1/3 mile. In 2007, Poorter will be on a half-mile to one-
mile tracks. Her speeds will also increase to 160 mph.
She returns to the United States in February and will hit the race track in her
No.60 car right away.
