California Teen Qualifies for Rotax Max Challenge North American Grand Nationals

Teen racer Jacob Pearlman of Carlsbad, California has made it to the Rotax Max Challenge North American Grand Nationals.

Round 7 of the Gatorz Karting Cup at Perris, California had significant championship implications. It also determined the qualifiers for the North American Rotax Max Challenge Grand Nationals.

“With so much on the line, the racers were aggressive and determined,” said Jacob’s father Richard Pearlman. “Despite all the competition and getting caught in two crashes, Jacob held on to move up to 5th place in season point standings. He also earned a qualifying spot in the Rotax Max Challenge, presented by Champ Car in Denver, Colorado.”

The racing day began with an uncooperative motor for JP. “When the official racing began in the afternoon, the best JP could do in qualifying was an unusual and disappointed 11th place,” said Pearlman. “It didn’t stop him. JP lined up on the inside of the 6th row for the start of the 20 lap heat race. By the end of the sixth lap, he moved up to the 8th position as was running with the lead pack.”

Another kart pulled in front of the whole group in the narrowest and tightest part of the circuit. The resulting contact among several karts sent JP’s #125 DPK/Birel with K&N Engineering Products spinning into the deep sand of the infield at Apex Raceway. He finished 12th in the heat.

The 34 lap main started at 9pm. “Trouble found JP in the very first turn,” said Pearlman. “Contact in the front of the pack sent one of the lead karts into the infield, then back on the track in front of Jacob’s kart. The impact shot JP and his Birel into the outside line of karts. Jacob held on even though he was hit by four other karts.”

JP corrected in time and was back on the gas tracking down the pack. He moved forward from 16th to finish in 7th place. He is optimistic as he looks toward the Grand Nationals next month. “Wow, I can’t wait to go to Denver,” said JP. “I am really proud to have K&N Products on my kart for the Grand Nationals. K&N is a key part to our success.”

Travis Kvapil Moves to Third in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in K&N Ford No. 6

Travis Kvapil was a top competitor from the start of practice on Friday until the end of the Built Ford Tough 225 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky. Driving the No.6 K&N Filters Ford F-150, Kvapil started seventh and finished second in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race.

Kvapil stayed in the top five throughout the 150-lap race. In the end, Mike Skinner’s No.5 machine proved to be the one to beat. Kvapil brought the No. 6 K&N F-150 home in second place and had the best finishing Ford of the night.

The K&N Team was strong as Kvapil took the seventh starting position for Saturday night’s showdown. At the start pole sitter Ryan Matthews slowed down and caused the field to split on either side. The racers went three-wide into turn one and when they circled the track for the first time, Kvapil was in fourth position. The first caution flew on lap 12 and Kvapil reported that the K&N F-150 was tight. Crew chief Mike Beam began plotting the team’s adjustments.

Kvapil took the third position by lap 34 until the second caution brought him to the first round of pit stops. Beam called for tires and fuel along with a track bar and air pressure adjustment to ease the tightness of the truck. Kvapil quickly found out the adjustments weren’t quite right.

At the next caution Beam took the opportunity to bring the K&N No.6 truck into the pit for the second and final time of the night. He reversed the previous adjustments and gave Kvapil a tank full of fuel to finish the race. Kvapil returned to the track in fifth for the re-start on lap 101 but maneuvered his way into second by lap 107.

Kvapil continued a strong run but it wasn’t enough to catch the No. 5. He drove the No.6 K&N F-150 to a second place finish behind Skinner. It was Kvapil’s fourth top five and seventh top 10 finish of the season.

“I’m really happy with our K&N Ford,” said Kvapil. “We’re happy with the momentum our team has had over the last five or six races. We’re really running strong.”

Kvapil moved to third place in the overall Craftsman Truck Series point standings. His next race will be at the O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Close Quarter Finish at Mile High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway for Jeff Arend

Team Worsham’s Jeff Arend had a solid run at the Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Denver, Colorado.

Arend managed to advance one round further than Del Worsham, who happens to be Arend’s Checker, Schuck’s, Kragen teammate and his boss. However, Arend felt the sting of defeat at Bandimere and lost a close side-by-side thriller in round two against Jack Beckman, after having won in round one where he defeated Kenny Bernstein.

Arend was in the No 10 spot for race day. “We went to the line with the intent of going end-to-end with all eight lit, and even though our 4.92 wasn’t perfect it was a strong lap,” said Arend. “We had a lot of confidence going into the main event.”

Arend and his opening round opponent, Bernstein, were the first to take the track in the Funny Car class. Bernstein was up in smoke early on his pass. Arend had a clean 5.153 to take the win light and move past Worsham in points. We know, with our K&N Engineering Oil Filters on our cars, that we can have confidence in our lubrication system, and that’s critical to success in this high-performance sport, said Team Manager Bob Wilber.

“I never saw Kenny after we left the line, so I just kept my foot down and hoped he wasn’t going to come roaring by me at the finish line,” said Arend. “It was a nice solid lap and a big win for us over one of the greatest drivers who ever strapped into one of these cars. When you beat Kenny Bernstein, you’ve earned the right to smile.”

Worsham and Ron Capps fought out a side-by-side battle as the second pair, with Capps beating Arend’s CSK teammate.

Round two brought Arend next to Jack Beckman. Both teams went to the line aware of the skittish nature of the hot Denver track. At the flash of the tree, Arend was ahead at 60 feet and seemed to be pulling away. Just before the half track the Chevron Techron Impala dropped a cylinder on the right side and began to lose its momentum. Beckman was able to pull away to win with a 5.121 to Arend’s 5.180. The margin of victory was 49-thousandths of a second.

“We wanted to win more than anything,” said Arend. “You can be mad, you can even be depressed about it if you want to, but it’s just the nature of the sport and all you can do is do what you’ve been doing. What we are doing right is running very well. Our day will come. Remember I said that.”

2006 to 2008 Ford Explorer Gets Additional Power with K&N Performance Air Intake System

The Ford Explorer uses a body on frame construction with a typical truck chassis for maximum design flexibility. Isolating the frame from the body helps achieve a quiet ride. A stiff frame allows engineers to control body motion for a mix of driver comfort and precision. The result is steering precision and directional stability.

K&N Engineering has developed great looking High-Flow Air Intake System (77-2573KP) with a polished finish for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Ford Explorer V8 4.6 liter engine. K&N dynamometer tests show a horsepower gain of 10.0 @ 4700 RPM.

To gain more horsepower simply replace the Explorer's original intake assembly with an all-new K&N Performance Air Intake System. The new system draws air through a K&N High-Flow Air Filter (RF-1048) which increases airflow and filtering capacity. The chrome top cone-shaped K&N Air Filter is washable and never needs to be replaced.

A powder coated steel heat shield replaces the stock air box and protects the K&N Air Filter while isolating it from engine heat.

The 77-2573KP uses the OE Mass Airflow Sensor, and although the MAF is re-positioned to assist in more horsepower, no computer programming is required.

It can be installed in 90 minutes or less and is backed by the K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty
