Chopper by Derby City Customs Runs and Sounds Like a Race Car

Derby City Customs is in the business of making one-of-a-kind motorcycles. Louisville, Kentucky brothers Jason and Jeremy Cantwell make unique bikes with one common thread, all of them have K&N Engineering air filters.

The newest creation to come out of their motorcycle shop has a RC Components frame with RC Components wheels and a 300 mm rear tire.

“We built it for a customer with a super charger and a four barrel Holley carburetor,” said Cantwell. “We had to cut the frame and machine out the mounts to reassemble the back bone. This way the engine still held and the super charger had a place to sit.”

The chopper has a custom made seat and the paint is called black cherry candy. The drive belt for the blower is spun directly off the crank. “This was way out of the norm,” said Cantwell. “We also had to cut and fabricate the gas tank to make it fit. This bike runs and sounds like a race car.”

The K&N air filter fits on top of the carburetor. “I called K&N directly with the size and dimensions I needed for an air filter,” said Cantwell. “They sent me the perfect air filter with a perfect fit. The bike rides great.”

So far this year, Derby City Customs built six bikes. Jason and Jeremy Cantwell have a reality television show pilot in the works that will be filmed in the brother's chrome shop and tattoo shop. Their next project is a custom 2008 Kawasaki Z10 which will be unveiled at the Indianapolis Grand Prix in September.

Owners of a 2013-2016 Nissan Pathfinder 3.5L can use the 69-7063TTK to gain an estimated 7 horsepower @ 5354 RPM. 2008-2012 Nissan Pathfinder models with a 5.6-liter engine can increase acceleration by about 11 horsepower @ 5137 RPM, by using the 77-6016KS.

2004 Nissan Pathfinders with a 5.6-liter V8 engine use K&N’s 57-6012 performance intake system to gain 11.21 horsepower @ 5073 rpm. The 77-6012KP, polished aluminum intake kit, is also available for these models. K&N testing shows an increase of 7.27 horsepower @ 4914 rpm with the 77-6012KP. The 57-6012 uses a non-metallic rotationally molded tube that can reduce intake air temperature and decrease intake sound over a metal tube.

2008 to 2012 Nissan Pathfinder models with the 4.0-liter engine use the 63-6014, non-metallic system to get 14.27 more horsepower @ 5075 rpm or K&N’s 77-6014-1KP to gain 11.63 horsepower @ 5200 rpm. The 77-6014-1KP fits 2005-2012 Pathfinder 4.0-liter engines.

The 57-6014, non-metallic intake system, to gain 14.27 horsepower @ 5075 rpm and is compatible with the 2005 to 2014 Nissan Pathfinder 4.0L. K&N air intake systems are so easy to install that it usually takes less than 90 minutes.

Owners of the 2001 to 2004 Nissan Pathfinder models that have the 3.5-liter engine gain a lifetime of performance with K&N’s 57-6011 intake system. Testing of the 57-6011 has shown an increase of 14.46 horsepower @ 5918 rpm.

NHRA POWERade Drag Racers with Record Wins Face Off in Topeka, Kansas

Two top sportsman class drivers faced off in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series in Topeka, Kansas. In Competition Eliminator, the first racer to the finish line wins. David Rampy and Dan Fletcher, both K&N Engineering sponsored racers, have 129 NHRA National Event wins between them.

Rampy won this round, bringing his total National event wins to 86. Fletcher has 51. Both each have five Division Championships along with eight World Championships. Rampy has six World and Fletcher has two World.

“The bottom line was there was a bad ass pair in the finals at Topeka,” said Dan Fletcher. “The race was there for the taking. I didn’t hit the tree the way I should have. I watched him coming at me at that was it. He won and I was schooled by the Comp Eliminator King, David Rampy.”

The conditions were hot and windy that day. The air temperature was 89 degrees with a relative humidity of 37 percent. The barometer was a little low and cars were a little slower overall.”

“When you race people you know, it makes it a little sweeter,” said Rampy. “I knew we would both make it to the finals and it would be a tough race. I was down about 1200 feet before I knew I would get around Dan for the win. He is really good and it felt great to beat a top notch team.” Rampy has used K&N products for years. “I use K&N air and oil filters,” he said. “The K&N dragster scoop is killer. It’s better aerodynamically.” Fletcher also uses K&N products. “I use the K&N Stubstack (85-0200) on the competition eliminator and K&N oil filters (HP-3002) on all my vehicles,” said Fletcher. “K&N products are ingenious, and my engines outlast and outperform thanks to K&N.” Next up for the pair will be in Chicago for the Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals.

Honda CRF150R Motocross Bikes Get Added Performance with New MX XStream Air Filter

Honda's championship winning line of CRF150R Motocross bikes has been called one of the best the company has ever produced. CRF150R's come in two models - Regular and Expert.

K&N's MX XStream Air Filter for Honda CRF150R's

K&N Engineering has developed an innovative MX XStream high performance air filter (HA-1507) for 2007 through 2016 Honda CRF150R Regular and Expert model motocross bikes. The filter element was engineered to fit into the CRF150R's factory air box using a billet aluminum backing-plate adaptor. Detailed installation are provided.

This performance air filter was designed to increased power and torque. The provided backing-plate adaptor mounts to the bike's original equipment (OE) air-box and provides a solid and secure mounting surface for the air filter. The air filter's red anodized aluminum XStream top provides even more filter surface area for longer service life and greater airflow capability.

All K&N High-Flow Filters are sold pre-oiled and are washable and reusable. K&N invented the pleated cotton air filter more than 35 years ago for the motorcycle market. “There was more depth at K&N then I ever imagined,” said Memmolo. “There was so much activity going on there by real automotive enthusiasts. I loved it there.” Memmolo is a Master Auto Technician and is also the host of two automotive radio talk shows.
