Add Estimated 23 Horsepower to Porsche Carrera and 911 with K&N Performance Air Intake System

The Porsche 911 is a racing car for the road with a lineage that dates back more than 40 years. In 1999 a new Porsche 911, known to purists as the 996, made its debut. Radical improvements were made to Porsche's flagship vehicle, most notably the new water-cooled 6-cylinder boxer engine. The company's racing heritagehelped shape the 996's driver environment, its controls, and of course, its performance.

K&N Engineering, Inc. has designed a Performance Air Intake System (57-7000) for the 2002 and 2003 Porsche Carrera 3.6L H6, 1999 to 2001 Porsche 911 3.4L H6, 2004 and 2005 Porsche 911 non-turbo 3.6L, and 2001 and 2002 Porsche 911 with the 3.6L engine.

The Porsche Carrera boasts increased performance over the previous generation 911. Install a K&N Performance Intake System and the Carrera is an even greater force to be reckoned with. K&N tests on our in-house dynamometer have shown an estimated gain of 23.80 Horsepower at 5500 RPM with the 57-7000 Intake System. "We were able to get such good horsepower because the original factory airbox is restrictive," said K&N Performance Kit Manager Bert Heck. "The design of the K&N Intake Tube and repositioning of the mass air sensor is a big reason why we were able to get so much power."

K&N intakes are designed to dramatically reduce intake restriction as they smooth and straighten airflow. This allows your engine to pull in air with ease compared to the OEM air filter assembly. More air means more power and torque when you need it. With a K&N Performance Air Intake System, consumers can count on extra horsepower whether driving around town, enjoying a winding mountain road, or shooting for a new track record.

This air intake system uses a conical shaped carbon fiber top high-flow air filter (RP- 4630). "We used the carbon top on the filter to add to the appeal of the Porsche look," said Heck. Also included with the 57-7000 is K&N Drycharger® part number RC-4630DK.The K&N Drycharger® is a silicone treated, polyester wrap that is made to cover K&N Air Filters. Uniform micron sized openings in the Drycharger allow optimum airflow, increase service life, and repel water.
This intake system uses the largest conical shaped High-Flow Carbon Top Air Filter (RP- 4630) that can fit into the engine compartment and a powder coated aluminum heat shield in place of the vehicle's stock air box. The result is an air filter that captures harmful particles, provides more surface area, flows more air, and has a long service life. This K&N air filter performs for up to 100,000 miles before service is required depending on driving conditions. Improving the air path between the filter and the motor is the rotationally-molded high-density polyethylene tube. It offers the most flexibility in design and outstanding horsepower numbers. "It's a very straight forward installation" according to Heck and takes about 90 minutes or less to install this system with simple tools. It is covered by K&N's Million Mile Limited Warranty and is street legal in all 50 US States.

“My chances of winning the World Championship are very much alive,” said Crump. “I will be racing with my K&N air filters as I always do and a win in Sweden will keep me in the running.”

Crump is just one Grand Prix win away from equaling the number of Grand Prix wins set by six-time World Speedway Champion Tony Rickardsson. “You don’t win World Championships on past performances,” said 17-time Grand Prix winner Crump. “There have been five different winners out of six Grand Prix this year and the field is very strong. I know what I need to do to win and I am feeling very confident now.”

Crump has had solid races over the last two months. “I will be going to Malilla in Sweden to win and capture as many points as I can,” he said. “I know I have a tough job ahead of me for the rest of the season. I will be fighting until the end.”

Teen Go Kart Racer Wins Championship Enduro Series and Saves Gas with K&N Products

Championship Enduro Series 360 division racer Jessica Brannam found herself with her back against the wall in the last race of the season. The 17-year-old K&N Engineering sponsored racer entered the competition at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in Beloit, Illinois third overall in championship points standings.

At the start of the race things did not go well for the McHenry, Illinois resident. There was a scoring glitch during qualifying and her fastest time was not recorded. That pushed her back from third to thirteenth position on the starting grid.

“There was also a problem with her go-kart,” said Jessica’s father Phil Brannam. “There wasn’t any time to fix it and the only choice was to send her out to race and hope for the best. Jessica drove her heart out.”

Jessica quickly moved her way up to sixth place and had enough points to squeeze out a season championship. “I felt as if I was driving with my brakes on the entire race,” she said. “I’m just happy we won another championship.”

Jessica Brannam and her family use K&N products 69-1016-1TS, HP-2006, RU-0110, 77-3036KP, HP-1008 and RU-0100 on their race vehicles and tow vehicles. "On the track we get great air flow and off the track our tow vehicles get great gas mileage with K&N," said Jessica's mother Diane Brannam. "Saving money on gas is important because we travel to about 50 races a year."

Jessica’s championship resume in 2008 includes a win in the River Valley Kart Series, the Briggs Animal heavy class and the 125 shifter no. 1 class. She has an overall total of 38 championships over eight years. Brannam plans to go to Atlanta for a National Division race in October. In the meantime, she is preparing for her first semester at college.

Honda CBR 600 and Suzuki GSXR 1000 Enter Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats

Most racers who go faster than 130 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats can only hear the wind as the blinding white salt shines under their motorcycles. Speed Week 2008 is back in Utah.

K&N sponsored Team Falkner Livingston teamed up with Malcolm Smith Racing to drive as fast as they can along I-80 near the Nevada border. The Salt Flats are a natural race course that consists of sodium chloride and gypsum. In the winter the vast expanse floods and as the water evaporates the wind helps smooth the Salts.

Livingston will race his Honda CBR 600 and Malcolm Smith Racing will bring identical 2008 Suzuki GSXR 1000s. “Malcolm and Alexander Smith are father and son,” said Livingston. “This will be their first time racing at Bonneville. We will help them get their bikes inspected and break them in on the Salts.

The adrenaline rush is part of racing on the hard smooth surface covered with salt granules. “Off- road riders seem to be more comfortable there because bikes tend to move around on the Salts,” said Livingston. “The surface is super smooth and slippery.”

Team Falkner Livingston uses K&N Engineering on its motorcycles. “K&N filters play an important part with making our bikes run well,” said Livingston. “We need to get as much air as possible into our engines and keep the granules and rocks away. K&N does its job, and that is why we rely on K&N air and oil filters.”

In 2007 Livingston qualified for the land speed record twice and pushed his 2007 GSXR 1000 at speeds of 180 mph.
