GT2 Dodge Viper Ready for 57th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring

Driver strategy meetings are a key component for the Primetime Race Group and are an important part of Joel Feinberg’s day. The ALMS GT2 Class team owner and driver is in competition against the big boys on the big tracks in the big races along with the huge budgets of those big boy factory teams.

“We meet multiple times a day, every day depending on our situation,” said Feinberg. “We come up with game plans for every racing session. Right now we’re getting ready for the 57th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. In this race we’ll use our Dodge Viper.”

The driver’s meetings are working. Despite all the hurdles of being a non-factory team, Feinberg kicked off the 2009 season with a win in the IMSA season opener in Florida. He drove the No. 7 Louis Moinet sponsored Elan DP-02 race car at the Sebring International Raceway IMSA Lites track.

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida driver started race one from second place after the morning qualifying session. Feinberg was overtaken at the start of the race by series newcomer Kyle Marcelli going into turn one. Feinberg caught Marcelli on the back straight and followed closely behind race leader Matt Downs. Feinberg passed Downs on the outside of turn eight and took the checkered flag.

“I like to start all the endurance races,” said Feinberg. “The tone of the race gets set at the start. Everyone is jockeying for position going into that first corner. We go from ten cars side-by-side to only two or three cars trying to fit. I want to take responsibility for this very difficult part of the race.”

The IMSA Races are part of the American Le Mans Series. “Sometimes we run both cars on the same day,” said Feinberg. “There will be times I get out of one car, grab something to drink and get into the other car and go. It’s not an easy thing to do. It takes a lot of focus to use different gears and a different style of driving.”

Feinberg’s No. 11 GT2 Dodge Viper was made as a competition coupe for the European racing circuit. “We took it and developed it for the GT2 Class,” he said. “It has a V10 engine and we run a K&N air filter. K&N gives us excellent filtration and more air in competitions. The Viper is one of the fastest cars on the straight-aways, but it does not corner as well because it’s heavy. We would love to spend tens of thousands on parts, but we’re not factory supported and we make choices.”

Factory teams are at a much higher level financially than the privateer teams. “I count my dollars and make decisions on how many guys to have at the track,” he said. “It’s tough because the factory teams may have five guys just sitting there on the sidelines and we’re going non-stop.”

The Elan DP-02 is a purpose built sports car for the IMSA Lights Series. It has a 2.3 liter Mazda Motor and reaches speeds of 150 mph. “Driving the Elan DP-02 is more intense than the Viper,” said Feinberg. “It’s a completely different car. It’s very light, aerodynamic and makes a lot of down force. It also has a carbon fiber tub chassis. Our K&N air filter is a great match for this car.”

The Primetime Race Group will have three drivers in rotation at the Twelve Hours of Sebring. Feinberg will start. “There are times when I’m begging to get out of the car because it’s so physical,” he said. “There are also times when I want to run the whole race and don’t want to get out of the car. I love what I do. When I’m racing it’s truly my best personal satisfaction.”

Feinberg has proven he can run with the big boys and win even though he is a privateer.

The 57th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring takes place Saturday March 21. It will be air on SPEED-TV, American Le Mans Radio.

Forsberg started out the sprint car season strong and competed in the 2009 Mini Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California.

Forsberg finished 4th in his heat race but started 16th in the A Main event. Unfortunately, Forsberg tangled with Lucas Wolf and Danny Lasoski on the racy ¼ mile track. He turned his car upside down and ended the night.

The team made repairs to its 360 Sprint car and gave it another run during the second night of the Mini Gold Cup. Forsberg finished 8th in the B-main.

Forsberg is ready for the California Civil War Series. The campaign consists of 14 overall events that take place at six different racing facilities from March through October.“I use K&N products at all of my races,” said Forsberg. “K&N makes great products and would not use anything else on my sprint cars.”

Even though the Acton, California pre-teen had the fastest lap time of the weekend, race organizers called a full field inversion by lap times and Briley had to start last during the main event.

Briley showed the rest of the pack why he is points leader. He moved up from 12th position to 4th position just like that. A yellow flag came out and at the restart Briley moved from 4th to 2nd place.

Briley took the lead in lap five and never looked back. He currently has the number one position in points. “I was down at the bottom of the stands jumping and cheering,” said Natasha Briley, Trenton’s mother. “At the end of the race an older gentleman congratulated us. He said we have a talented son who is a very great driver. I was stunned because the praise came from Walker Evans a thirty year off road racing veteran and champion known as The Legend.”

Briley’s Trophy Kart has a LTR 450 Suzuki quad racer motor. “We use K&N air filters and oil filters,” said Trenton’s father Rob Briley. We’ve used K&N for as long as I can remember on our street cars and trucks. K&N is a well known product in our family.”

Add 6.14 HP to Mitsubishi Raider and Dodge Dakota with Polished K&N Air Intake System

The Mitsubishi Raider has aggressive styling and is the brand’s only pickup truck. However, under the Raider’s eye-catching fenders is essentially a midsize Dodge Dakota pickup. Both have good towing capacity and handle well on the road.

K&N has designed a new polished aluminum high flow air intake system (77-1558KP) for the 3.7 liter engines of the 2008 Dodge Dakota, the 2007 Dodge Dakota, the 2008 Mitsubishi Raider, and the 2007 Mitsubishi Raider.

Dynamometer tests show a 6.14 horsepower gain at 4200 RPM. K&N’s cold air intake design has lower restriction than the factory air box system. K&N removed the intake plenum to help smooth the air entering the throttle body.

The 77-1558KP uses a conical shaped chrome top high flow air filter (RF-1048), and a powder coated heat shield in place of the vehicle’s stock airbox. The extra large heat shield directs incoming fresh air from the factory air inlet into the air filter, isolates the K&N air filter from the engine compartment and allows it to receive a consistent flow of fresh air.

The washable and reusable K&N air filter can perform for up to 100,000 miles before service is required. Installation can be performed in 90 minutes or less. This air intake provides excellent air filtration and a power gain you can feel immediately.  The 77-1558KP is also backed by K&N’s Million Mile Limited Warranty.
