The clock is ticking for a father and daughter race team who are more than ready to take on the 2009 STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series.

Ken and Katie Jones of Mendota, Illinois have been part of the lawn mower racing scene for years. Ken Jones is a 15-year USLMRA (U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association) racing veteran, USLMRA Steering Committee Member, Race Director and President of the Illinois Lawn Mower Racing Association. Katie, 14, races in the Junior Prepared Class and grew up on the lawn mower circuit at her father’s side.

K&N is proud to announce a partnership with K&N Jones Racing for the 2009 Lawn Mower Racing Series. “It’s an honor to be selected to represent K&N and to team up with my daughter Katie for such a fine company,” said Jones. “Now USLMRA lawn mower racing can take its place among the world-class racing organizations that K&N supports such as the Indy Racing League, American Motorcycle Association and the Snap-On Stars of Karting.”

Racing lawn mowers are highly modified versions of the average lawn mower with the cutting blades removed. They can reach speeds anywhere from 25 to 60 mph. Some racing lawn mowers sound like small block Chevy motors and are clocked at more than 100 mph. There are no cash prizes, racers compete for trophies, glory and bragging rights.

“K&N is proud to be part of Ken Jones Racing,” said Tony Yorkman, K&N Sports Marketing Manager. “They are very competitive and know how to have fun at the track. As a family, Ken and Katie have to rely on each other and they both know they can rely on K&N products. We are happy to include them in our K&N family.”

Lawn mower racers have the option of several classes, the Stock, IMOW, Prepared and Factory Experimental. “We race three mowers side-by-side on the track,” said Jones. “We do have aggressive driving rules but we do everything we can not to bump each other. We run with open wheels and if we bump tires we’re likely to go airborne.”

Katie Jones is in the Junior Prepared Class. “Katie has been racing since she was only 10-years-old,” said Jones. “During the 2008 season she took first place in two races.” Ken Jones races in the AP portion of the IMOW class.

“I use K&N air filters and would not use anything else,” said Jones. “A lot of guys at the track use them on the circuit. Nothing else protects our engines like K&N.”

K&N and Ken Jones Racing will be featured on USLMRA telecasts on Fox Sports Net and the Outdoor Channel this fall. Ken Jones Racing will also have a prominent display at the 2nd Annual Performance Mowersports Expo during the 17th annual STA-BIL Nationals Weekend, September 3-5 in Delaware, Ohio.

Ken and Katie Jones are currently gearing up for the STA-BIL Off-Road Truck and Tractor Nationals in LaPort County, Indiana.

“My objective is to win and capture as many points as possible to maintain or increase my lead in the series,” said Crump. “Right now my focus is on Sweden and I am not thinking beyond that at this stage. Anything short of a win and I will be bitterly disappointed.”

The two-time World Speedway Champion said consistency is the main key to becoming a World Champion. K&N is part of the Crump’s winning equation. “K&N makes the best filter on the market,” said Crump. “I depend on the additional horsepower and extra filtration at every race. K&N has been on my motorcycles since the beginning of my career and helped me reach the podium every time.”

Crump took third place in Prague in the Czech Republic and a total of 14 points at the season opener then took first place in Leszno, Poland. Crump has 36 points overall in the series.

The 43,000 seat Ullevi Stadium is expected to be packed for the World Speedway Grand Prix on May 30.

K&N Gives Waibel's Kids A Taste of Racing at Gator Nationals

Jeremy Waibel, son of Division 2 Hall of Fame member Jimmy Waibel, says his family has been in the racing business for over 50 years. "I am a second generation driver and my children will soon follow in this pattern," says Waibel. In addition to driving a '69 Camaro in NHRA Stock Eliminator competition, Waibel is also a 4th degree Master Black Belt in the art and science of Tae Kwon Do. "I have been a practitioner of this sport for almost 25 years. I own and operate a Tae Kwon Do school in Lakeland, Florida. From this school we launched a satellite program at the Florida Baptist Children's home where we teach a few times per week." There is no charge for this program since Waibel knows that the majority of these children would never be able to participate in something like this.

The Florida Baptist Children's home is a place where less fortunate children can have a stable, loving environment where they can develop into productive members of society. "I became involved with the Florida Baptist Children's home through my church and my race car," says Waibel. "I was asked to speak as a professional race car driver and martial artist at the church sponsored 'Camp Extreme.' As soon as I got there, I knew I had to do something to help these children." Soon afterward, Waibel began his Tae Kwon Do program and the kids loved it.

Waibel was able to give these kids yet another once in a lifetime experience when he got the idea to take them to the AC Delco Gator Nationals. "My race car has been sponsored by K&N for many years, so I brought up the idea of taking the kids to the Nationals and left it in their hands. We were so excited when we received the tickets from K&N and realized how many kids would get to go."

The children in Waibel's group are ages 4 - 17 and come from many different backgrounds. Some are abused mentally, physically, and emotionally and others have been witness to terrible things. "When we got to the Nationals, you would have thought that it was Christmas morning," says Waibel. "The children were so thrilled to be there. They got to meet drivers like Warren Johnson, Erika Enders, Melanie Troxel, Tommy Johnson Jr., Doug Patrick, Scott Helms, Alan Wade, Jay and Shelly Payne, Jeg Coughlin, and Chris Turnage. I think that they enjoyed hanging out with Peter Biondo the most. Here was this untouchable race car driver, racing though the woods with them. It was an amazing week!"

"K&N has not only made an impact in the lives of some children that otherwise may have never been exposed to this sport except on TV, but in the lives of everyone that was around our team that weekend," says Waibel. "They all knew that K&N was the reason we were able to attend."
