Factory Aprilia RSV1000R Rider Chaz Davies Scored Top Five Finish in AMA Competition at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
“A good qualifying position is critical to a podium finish in the race,” said Chip Spalding, Team Manager. “If a rider is not able to latch on to the lead group early in the race, the lap times become too close to bridge the gap to catch up and win.”
The weather in Ohio was bad on Friday and the normal qualifying session was cancelled. This only left a
short final qualifying session on Saturday morning. “Chaz was able to get in some quick laps,” said Spalding. “Unfortunately, the session ended early because another rider crashed.”
The cancellation of the qualifying session was the last thing new rider Aaron Gobert needed. “He needed more track time to learn the Aprilia
RSV1000R,” said Spalding. “He did manage to end up in the 14th position on the outside of row seven at the start
of the race.”
Both riders got boxed in at the start in Race One and lost positions going into turn one. Davies and Gobert put their heads down and proceeded to turn their fastest laps of the weekend. In the end, Davies finished in fifth place and Gobert finished in eleventh place.
“On the second day we had a good pace and were able to run with the lead group,” said Chaz Davies. “We couldn’t get close to the
leaders because of our qualifying position. It’s a shame that because of the rain on Friday, we didn’t get a chance at the podium on Sunday, but that’s the way it goes.”
“We had a solid weekend,” said Kevin Hunt, Team Owner. “We had some good finishes with Chaz and we made a lot of progress with Aaron.”
The Aprilia RSV1000Rs are equipped with K&N sport bike air filters and oil filters. “We use K&N on everything we build,” said Spalding. “K&N protects our engines from track debris, gives us great filtration and is very dependable. K&N performs for us on the track every time.”
The next AMA Daytona SportBike Series Race will be in Heartland Park, Kansas.

round trip from our home in Kentucky to a race track in Tennessee when he first started racing Karts. I use to race but Elliott really got the racing gene. He loves it. I just work on the cars.”
