Senior year is about to start in Hesperia, California for K&N Driver Kyle McGrady, but there is still a lot of racing left for the young driver in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series. McGrady is ready to
continue to balance his 3.8 average at school with his racing career.

He is currently 8th overall in the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale Auto Club Late Models Division. At 16, McGrady is also the youngest driver in the division. He received his NASCAR license before his state driver’s license.“It’s interesting because a lot of drivers have a lot of years on me,” said McGrady. “It’s also very competitive. There is still time for me to move up a few more points this season.”

The McGrady family uses K&N products on its racecars as well as tow vehicles and passenger cars
2009 was his first season in his family owned K&N Products Late Model Stock car. “We go about 92 mph and about 110 mph at the end of the straightaway,” said McGrady. “I’m getting comfortable with the car. The set-up is still a little finicky but we’re working it out.”
McGrady is also up for rookie of the year in the NASCAR Series.
He is also very familiar with several types of racing. He began racing Jr. Speedway Sprints on dirt when he was only 8-years-old. At 10, he graduated to Mini-Stock Cars and at 13 moved up to the Pro-4 Division. McGrady won Rookie of the Year in 2006 in the Pro-4 Division where the next youngest driver was in his late 20s. He also finished 6th overall in the points standings
that year.
“We use K&N products on our race cars, tow vehicles and passenger cars,” said McGrady. “K&N protects our engines and gives us extra horsepower and acceleration on and off the track.”
McGrady will next race at Irwindale August 8 and 22.
Driver Andrew Comrie-Picard (ACP) took fifth place overall at the 2009 X Games 15 Rally Car Race at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, California. Competitors at the X Games go head to head on a mixed asphalt and dirt course and face a 70 foot gap jump that is a highlight for both fans and drivers.

Team ACP won its first eliminations round and met Subaru Rally Team USA driver and defending champion Travis Pastrana in the quarter final. ACP was running strong against Pastrana when he started losing turbo boost. Comrie-Picard said a hard hit after going long on the jump during practice was to blame.

“I got the biggest air of the day over the jump during practice and nosed it,” said Comrie-Picard. “The front of the car was pretty battered by the time I lined up against Travis, and one of the boost hoses was leaking. The crew really deserves the credit for their incredible job in repairing the car to get it back to the starting line for each round through the quarterfinals. And of course, Travis drove a great race.”
Nine-time X Games gold medalist Pastrana took the silver medal. Former Indianapolis 500 winner Kenny Brack took the gold in a Ford Fiesta and Tanner Foust, 2007 Rally Car Racing gold medalist took the bronze.
Brian Deegan, freestyle motocross star and
short course dirt truck driver took fourth place.
ACP’s NOS Energy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX was the only car in the top five without factory support. “There’s no shame in losing to the Ford Fiesta, really,” said Comrie-Picard. “The cars are beautifully engineered and they were well driven at the X-Games.”
Picard’s Mitsubishi is equipped with K&N products. “We work in tough conditions with a motor built right to the edge of the envelope,” said Comrie-Picard. “K&N keeps contaminants out of our engines and has been our choice for a decade.”
In the lead-up to the X Games, Comrie-Picard made the most out of his visit to Southern California. He was invited to throw the first pitch at a Los Angeles Dodgers home game. He also took a podium finish at his first-ever Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series in a Bully Dog Superlite truck in Lake Elsinore, California.
During the 2008 X Games Comrie-Picard shorted the big 70 foot jump in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX and flipped end over end. He was not hurt. The spectacular crash made highlight reels around the world. The flip is also one of the featured moments in X Games 3D: The Movie, which premiered in Los Angeles during X Games
15 and hits the big screens nationwide later this month.
ACP will now return his focus to the Rally America title. There is just a four-point spread between ACP, in third at the mid- point of the season, Block, Foust and Andi Mancin. All are trailing defending champion Pastrana.

Rider Chaz Davies of the Factory Aprilia Millennium Technologies Team finished fourth in the AMA Daytona SportBike Race One at Heartland Park Topeka.

In qualifying, Davies had the second fastest time of the season in his Aprilia. Davies’ teammate Aaron Gobert continued to learn the Aprilia RSV1000R and had solid top fifteen finishes in both weekend races.

The Aprilia RSV1000Rs are equipped with K&N sports bike air filters and oil filters. “We use K&N on all of our bikes,” said Team Manager Chip Spalding. “K&N protects our engines from track debris and gives us the extra filtration we need when we are racing.”
Daytona SportBike Race One was going very well when Davies slotted into the second position on lap two. “Unfortunately the race was stopped because of a crash and completely restarted,” said Chip Spalding, Team Manager. “The second restart didn’t go as well for the Millennium Technologies sponsored team when Davies was pushed wide and fell back to seventh place.”
Davies put his head down and fought his way back to fourth place. “This was Chaz’s sixth top five finish of the year,” said Spalding. “Aaron struggled with a difficult set up but ran consistent laps for the entire race and finished in the fourteenth position.”
On AMS Daytona SportBike Race Two, both riders had great starts. Davies moved up to fourth place, but the race was stopped because of a crash by another rider. On the restart Davies moved to the front but had to retire after a few laps because of an electrical problem. “It was nice to get another top-five result,” said Davies. “But I am very disappointed with the result from Sunday’s race. The bike was so much better on Sunday than Saturday but it didn’t work out. We took a gamble with some untested electronic parts and we lost. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. We’ll get it figured out.”
Gobert continued to come to terms with his new ride, and dropped nearly a second off his average lap time from the day before to finish in eleventh position. “The Aprilia RSV1000R is such a good bike,” said Gobert. “We make progress every time we get on the track and I know we will get it right before the end of the season.”
