Forrest Wang is now known as one of the elite drivers in the D1 Grand Prix drifting series. However, this Hawaii native hasn't always lived the lifestyle of a professional racecar driver. In fact, he had to be extremely resourceful during his humble beginnings on the island of Oahu. It all started his sophomore year in high school when Forrest's passion for cars was sparked. Forrest and his friends would cruise the island looking for places to drift. They would locate open fields, gravel lots and abandoned pineapple roads to slide around.

As performance parts became more available on the island, Forrest and his friends started modifying their cars in hopes of gaining extra horsepower. One of their favorite pastimes also became watching Japanese drifting videos. As time went on, Forrest honed his skill set in drifting and looked to compete on a national level.

In order to be a competitive opponent in a national drifting series, Forrest had to first build a durable racecar. His vehicle of choice was a Nissan S13 with a Japanese SR20 powerplant. To increase the power output, Forrest turned to Full-Race Motorsports out of Phoenix, Arizona. Full-Race outfitted the S13 with their SR20DET twinscroll GT30R turbo package upping the horsepower to the 400-whp mark.

To ensure that the high-horsepower engine could breathe and filter the incoming airflow properly, Forrest installed a K&N high-performance air filter. In addition to the air filter, Forrest also opted for a K&N Wrench-Off Oil Filter for high oil flow, durability and filtration. "K&N was the brand of my first intake and I have their filters on all my cars, so naturally I turned to K&N for my racecar as well." says Forrest.

With the support of a few sponsors, Forrest is now involved in many facets of drift. He takes time to instruct amateurs at Vegas Drift, the Las Vegas Drifting Community. He also races in select amateur events as well as on a professional level in the D1 Grand Prix series. For the 2009 season, Forrest focused his efforts to make an impact in the D1GP series.

With three D1 events down and one more to go, Forrest has demonstrated his drifting proficiency and landed himself the fourth overall position in points in a group of seasoned US and Japanese drivers. To further reinforce his status, Forrest has been dubbed "D1's Rising Contender" on the D1GP website.

To recap Forrest's successes in the D1 Grand Prix series, lets take a look at the first three events. The D1GP season kicked off at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. At this event, Forrest charged hard and landed a solid qualifying position. At the end of the race, Forrest was pitted against Nobushige Kumakubo of Team Orange. The race against Kumakubo was extremely close, the crowd and judges called for two OMTs (One More Time). Forrest fought off Kumakubo as best as he could and secured the 3rd place podium finish.

The second round of the D1 series took place at The Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. Forrest had his eyes set on another podium finish and established his spot in the Top 16 by qualifying in the 5th position. With on-and-off rain at this event, Forrest wished for the best as the first race of eliminations began. Upon the initiation of the drift on his first run, Forrest broke an axle. Unfortunately, Forrest couldn't repair the axle within the allotted time and was given the last place finish, only brining home one point for this event.

At the third round of racing held at the Soldier Field raceway in Chicago, Illinois, Forrest ran into some tough luck on Friday's practice session. A broken transmission seemed to end his weekend of drifting. However, Simba from the Touge Factory came through in a major way, picking up a transmission and helping with the swap. In order to keep the transmission intact for competition, Forrest drove conservatively during qualifying but ended up qualifying 2nd! After a number of match ups, Forrest found himself in the finals against Ken "Nomuken" Nomura (one of D1's top Japanese drifters). In a heated battle, Forrest walked away with a 2nd place podium finish, earning valuable points towards the championship.

Currently, Forrest holds the fourth overall points standing and is in the running for the 2009 D1GP championship. This is a huge feat considering that he only received one point for the second round in Florida. With one more race left in the series to determine the winner, Forrest is gearing up for the Season Finale in Englishtown, New Jersey on September 5th.

Racers Jordan Alexander and Jon Thornburg shared the front row with Steele at the start of the 25 lap GM Performance Late Model main event. Thornburg bolted to the front from the pole position and Alexander took second place. Steele started fourth and patiently worked his way past Alexander and began to challenge second place racer Gary Puckett.

Steele made the move to second place on lap 16 and set his sights on Thornburg. “I stayed glued to the inside of the speedway as Jon motored around the middle of the track,” he said. “Jon slipped off turn four and I moved into the lead.”

Steele stayed in first place until a late caution bunched the field with only two laps to go. On the restart Steele drove away as Alexander tried to move past Thornburg for second place. “Both of them raced door to door into turn three on the final lap and they made contact,” said Steele. “Both cars went spinning. Alexander did two 360 degree spins as Puckett and the rest of the field took evasive action.”

In the end it was Steele winning over Puckett, Josh Harwell, Alexander and Mike Walker. “Our late model car performs so well because of the K&N products we have been using for the past 5 years,” said Steele. “K&N gives us more horsepower to our engine that cannot be gained in any other way.”

Rocks, Dirt and Rollovers Push Brothers to the Limit in XRRA Western Series

Brad and Roger Lovell put the hammer down at the XRRA finals in Colorado. The brothers visited the silt and rock track of Cortez for the final round of the western series.

The course was brutal and it devastated machinery all weekend long. Brad Lovell was only able to finish 8th after a crash broke his steering and nearly ripped a front wheel off. Roger Lovell fared much better and pulled off an amazing save after nearly rolling in a turn. After six solid runs Roger Lovell was elevated to a 2nd place finish, the best for his season.

“We made repairs and fine tuned the trucks for Sunday’s race,” said Brad Lovell. “Then, it was time to hit the course again. This time we were determined not to make the same mistakes again.”

Brad Lovell took off in a battle for the lead with Shannon Campbell. Roger Lovell continued his strong performance and by noon, two of the top three spots were held by the Lovell brothers.

“Roger’s time deteriorated and he fell to 7th after facing muddy rocks from a watered course followed by a dug out climb,” said Lovell. “I raced forward and sparred with Campbell into the shootout.” The two brutal runs were an event heat between the rivals but Campbell’s faster times during regular competition gave him the edge. Brad Lovell handed the team another second place.

“We never have to worry about our K&N air filters,” said Lovell. “There is a lot of silt and fine dust on these courses and K&N Keeps the debris out of our engines and keeps our sensors from clogging up. There is also a slight taper to give us the clearance and flexibility we need on these difficult courses.”

Brad Lovell placed 4th overall in the 2009 series and Roger Lovell was 5th overall. The Lovell’s are on their way to the 1000 mile Vegas to Reno desert race on August 20th. The brothers will square off against 18 other unlimited mini trucks for victory in the longest point to point race in the United States.

Together, BMW's X6 and K&N Shatter Preconceptions About Performance And Versatility

BMW's X6 concept debuted in 2007 to what must have been a stunned audience. BMW created a new market segment with the X6. Calling it a "Sports Activity Coupe" should strike most people as odd. After all, it has four doors and a high SUV-type stance. Essentially, what BMW set out to do was combine the performance of the traditional coupe with the versatility of an SUV. A sloped roof line, 300 horsepower, all-wheel-drive, and seating for four is the result of BMW's labor. Equally earth shattering is the notion that a performance product can also be ecological, but this is exactly what K&N did 40 years ago.

K&N has designed a washable and reusable lifetime air filter, part number 33-2428, for the 2008 through 2016 BMW X6 3.0L L6. The 33-2428 is made from cotton instead of paper and never needs to be replaced. K&N air filters provide less restriction than typical paper air filters, which can increase the efficiency of the combustion process, creating more horsepower and torque. The simple drop in design makes a K&N replacement air filter an easy and ecological performance add-on for your 2008 to 2016 BMW X6 3.0L L6.

K&N invented a special low-restriction air filter that is washable and reusable. Allowing your engine to breathe easier can give your car extra horsepower and extra acceleration that can come in handy, even during every day driving. 33-2428 will require cleaning every 50,000 miles under normal highway driving conditions. It will provide outstanding engine protection for the life of your vehicle, and since it never needs to be replaced, part number 33-2428 will help to reduce waste.

K&N stock replacement air filters for street vehicles are covered by our famous K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty and will be the last air filter your vehicle will ever need.

The 33-2428 replacement air filter will fit the following BMW models:
