Lucas Oil Off-Road Series Pro Buggy Racer Bobby Pecoy is Fulfilling a Dream

Bobby Pecoy began by racing go-karts
Bobby Pecoy started riding motorcycles at five years old. Although he had an extreme love for the sport, his parents forbid him to race. Plenty of parents worry themselves sick over the potential dangers of racing, and his were no exception. So, like many youth, Bobby snuck the motorcycle out of the garage to take it to the local tracks to ride.

Although many of Bobby's friends were racing when he was young, his parents remained adamant, and said as long as he lived with them he could not race. Then once Bobby did move out, he found out quickly that he could not afford the time to race since he had to get a career started. His dreams of becoming a racer were put on hold for 15 years until he finally had the time to try his luck at racing go-karts. "I raced go-karts for three years", says Bobby, "until my wife and I had our first child and that put an end to the go-kart racing."

Child rearing kept him off the tracks for several years, but then he started racing some grand prix events on a motocross bike and doing fairly well against guy's his age and even younger. Bobby says, "I found myself thinking I might be pretty good at this racing stuff again. Then I noticed Rhino's racing. I thought that looked fun so I tried it and it was a blast. I then went to a CORR race in Pomona and saw the Pro Buggies Race and I thought that was all about me! The first full season of racing the Unlimited / Pro Buggy I was on the podium six times and brought home three first place trophy's. Wooo Hooo!!"

At long last, Bobby is fulfilling his dream, and races in the M4SX series, and the Lucas Oil Off Road Series. He drives a self sponsored # 973 Pro Buggy, and his recent win at the LOORS event in Surprize, Arizona was over the top. "Wire to Wire, led the entire race by a long shot," stated Bobby. "For me in the drivers seat at the time it was kind of boring, all by myself with no one to race with. Then I looked back to see the excitement of the team, family and sponsors and it was incredible."

Bobby developed a partnership with K&N during one of the early Lucas Oil races and says the filters keep the air in his race car breathing clean, and the oil running pure.

K&N’s Research and Development Department tested a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS with a 6.2 liter V8 engine on one of our in house dynamometers. Results showed an increase across the RPM range with a estimated gain of 18 horsepower at 5200 RPM.

In addition to power gains, K&N cold air intake systems are also designed to increase filtering capacity and improve throttle response. The heat shields are engineered to isolate the oversized K&N chrome top high flow air filter, part number RF-1042 from engine bay heat.

This air intake kit also makes use of the Camaro’s factory fresh air duct which provides cooler outside air to the K&N air filter. This filter captures harmful particles, increases airflow and also increases service life. It will perform for up to 100,000 miles before service is required depending on driving conditions.

The mass air sensor is installed in the 90 degree bright intake tube. The mass air sensor adaptors are precision CNC machined, 6061 billet aluminum for accurate mass air flow sensor readings.

It takes about 90 minutes to install the 69-4519TP. This K&N air intake system, like all other K&N air intake systems is backed by the famous K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty.

Canada Cup Champion ATV Racer Richard Pelchat Proud of his 2009 Season

Canadian Richard Pelchat competed in 21 ATV races in 2009 and logged 40,000 miles of travelling. "I will remember 2009 as my toughest ATV racing season ever," he said. "But overall it was a great year."

Can-Am X-Team ATV motocross racer Pelchat won the Canada Cup ATV Championship. Richard Pelchat also took the holeshot in both ATV moto races in the final round of the championship series aboard his DS 450. "I’m proud to win the cup for Canada," he said. "Canadians all grow up dreaming of winning the Stanley Cup for a professional hockey team. Not me, I guess the name of the championship fits us."

Richard Pelchat uses K&N air filter part number, CM-4508 and K&N air filter wrap, part number CM-4508DK on his race ATV. "My K&N air filters worked perfectly this year," he said. "I really like the power they provide me, plus they are so easy to use. The washing and oiling process is quick and we always have K&N filters ready for us at every event."

He followed up his ATV championship win with a strong sixth overall at the penultimate round of the 2009 ITP Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross Championship at Red Bud Track and Trail in Michigan. Richard Pelchat had great weather at the AMA Red Bud. "It was a nice MX track," he said. "I qualified well in front of many factory riders and rode hard."

Things don't always run flawless for ATV racer Richard Pelchat, like his competition at the twelve hours of Pont-de-Vaux in France. "It is really an amazing event," said the racer. "I was teamed up with French riders Jeremy Warnia and Greg Lassigne. We had a bunch of little problems that you can’t have in order to win an endurance race. It just wasn’t our turn."

Richard Pelchat also attended the Montreal Supercross ATV race event. "I took a month off to put myself in SX mode," he said. "I changed my practice track to make it a real SX challenge. The Montreal SX is really great and I was ready for the race. Josh Creamer, John Natalie, Chad Wienen were all on the entry list, but deep down I did not fear them. I felt like I could win. Unfortunately I hurt my left shoulder during practice and the pain was so intense I had to pull out. It increased with every bump and each lap. It was a tough decision, but a smart decision to pull out of the event."

Some of the other ATV races on Pelchat's 2009 schedule were:
Walton, Canada Cup ATV Race
St. Wenceslas, Courses VTT Round 2
Southwick, NEATV Racing
Pennsylvania AMA ATV Racing
St. Seraphine Courses VTT Round 3
Lorreta Lynn, Tennessee AMA ATV Racing

Richard Pelchat will be back for the 2010 ATV race season and said he will be on the starting line with the will to win more than ever. "I will be racing in the United States for a few events," he said. "And I also plan to defend my Canada Cup."

“Joey has a natural ability when it comes to driving,” said Bobbie Rader, Joey’s mother. “He had a new junior dragster in 2009 and fought it all year long, trying to get the bugs out. We let him be the decision maker on the car, we let him do the dial-ins and he made correct decisions throughout the year.”

McCune also won three races in 2009 and came in second place for five races. He also finished in second place in points at Ozark Raceway Park in Rogersville, Missouri.

“Joey has earned a faster car,” said Rader. “He is also a straight A student. I just know he’ll continue to get good grades in high-school. We have a rule about that, if his grades drop he does not get to drive.”

The family plans a full race schedule for Joey in 2010. His first race will be at Ozark Raceway Park next April where he will compete for cash prizes. “We only use K&N air and oil filters on all of our vehicles,” said Bader. “K&N protects our engines and gives us extra filtration on and off the track.”
