Lucas went to work at Richmond Speedway and brought home his second victory of the year at the track.
On the drivers-side door of the Josh Lucas number 78 car he has painted - "Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way." That pretty much sizes up how the man races and lives his life.
Lucas with his two biggest fans, four-year-old son Landen, and two-year-old daughter Laken.
Open wheel modified racer Josh Lucas and his team recently visited Richmond Speedway and they qualified second, only one-hundredth of a second behind "the guy that wins there every week." When Lucas came in from qualifying though he had bad news for his team, "something's wrong with the transmission," he said. They drained the tranny fluid, got a magnet, and separated as much metal as they could. "We came very, very close to loading it up for the night," said K&N sponsored racer.
Lucas took the car around in the pits a bit and said there was a grinding noise, but only when he started, he didn't hear it when he revved the engine. "So we decided to run the 10-lap heat." He won the heat without problems, which again put him beside "the guy that wins there every week."
Lucas says his son already has the race bug, Landen names his toy cars after popular racers and helps dad work on his car as often as possible.
The pole-sitter got the jump on Lucas at the start, but Lucas took the lead away from him on lap eight. He led for nearly three laps before a caution flag halted racing. At the restart they put the other guy ahead of Lucas, and the crowd went berserk. Lucas stopped and said something to the official, but he finally slipped back behind the pole-sitter and got on with racing. Once the green flag dropped Lucas was back around the guy within a half lap.
"After several more cautions and a lot of prayers that the transmission wouldn't fail us, we came home with our second victory there," remarked Lucas. The Lucas Racing team is now two-for-two at Richmond Speedway. And in fact, the guy that wins there every week, doesn't, whenever Lucas has been there.
"It was really a sweet victory, first knowing the transmission could go out at any moment, then to lead a race for over two and a half laps, and to be put back in second position, well, it was really a thrill when the checkered flag was waving for the win. Once again the fans went wild, they all knew I lead that race long enough so that I shouldn't have been put in second place."
Lucas adds "Well, I don't like to gossip, but we've heard that the pole-sitter is kind of local, know what I mean? And it didn't sit too well when he has won so many in a row, and I came in there and won not once, but twice."
Asked what he said to the official after the first caution "I just ask the official on the track what was the deal, I lead the race for over two laps. His response was I only do what they tell me to do. So I got really fired up, I knew I had the lead, and the tranny could go anytime, so I just made my mind up to settle this for good. When the green flag dropped, I went back around and left him. He wasn't even close this time."
"The season is winding down for the year, but the crew is thinking we may need to go to this track one more time before it closes for the season. I love the track, but it is very hard to pass on, so track position is very important. We will see, maybe we can do it again."
"There is also a two day show at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Kentucky, October 1 and 2. We like two day shows, so may take that one in. I really want to thank K&N for their continued support. K&N products are amazing." concludes Lucas.
K&N Air Intake Installed on 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Dyno Chart for 2010 to 2016 Toyota FJ Cruiser
At first glance, the 2010 to 2016 Toyota FJ Cruiser bears a strong resemblance to
its famous sibling, the FJ40 Land Cruiser. But underneath its skin, more
than 40 years of off-road heritage combine with modern conveniences like
satellite radio, a reverse/backup camera, and traction control to bring
Toyota off-road enthusiasts a very capable machine. Power is generated by
Toyota's proven and reliable 4.0L V6 engine. However, the true performance
potential of the 4.0 is held back, due to restriction in the stock air
intake system.
K&N Air Intake System for 2010 to 2016 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Air intake system designers at K&N knew there was more performance
potential hidden underneath the hood of the FJ. The 63-9034 intake system for the 2010 to 2016 FJ Cruiser, helps uncover much of that hidden performance. The 63-9034 will also fit 2010 to 2016 Toyota 4Runners with 4.0L V6 engines.
With the K&N 63-9034
restrictive air intake components are removed and replaced with K&N-designed components which have less restriction. The factory air filter and air box are replaced with a reusable K&N conical air filter (part number RF-1044XD), which has very low restriction and excellent filtration. K&N's air intake tube is constructed of
a roto-molded material that provides a smooth inside surface and eliminates even more of the restriction
created by the factory intake. Air flow restriction keeps an engine from
running at its peak efficiency and power output. How much power does
restriction rob from a 2010 to 2016 FJ? K&N testing shows about
12 horsepower and 13.91 lb.-ft. torque at 4600 RPM!
A powder-coated steel heat shield protects the air filter from engine heat, as well as the occasional splashes you might encounter while out on the trail. Detailed, photo-illustrated instructions make the 63-9034 easy to install, requiring only basic hand tools. You can even watch an
installation video of this
air intake on a 2010 FJ Cruiser. Installation of the K&N 63-9034 can be completed in 90 minutes or less, and is backed by K&N's Million Mile Limited Warranty.
No. 26 Ford for Gene Price Motorsports driven by Greg Pursley
Greg Pursley won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race with a flat rear tire as he crossed the finish line at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah on Sunday.
Greg Pursley won NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah
The flat tire was only one of the obstacles Pursley had to overcome en route to his first win of the season. He had to serve a drive-through penalty when his crew did not remove his catch can from his gas tank during the first round of pit stops.
"We went all the way to the back and motored all the way to the front. We didn't give up," said Pursley, driver of the No. 26 Ford for Gene Price Motorsports. "It's such a fun race course. We love coming out to Miller Motorsports Park. It's a great race track. I'm just very happy to be where I am."
Greg Pursley took the lead in the race at Miller Motorsports Park on the first lap
Pursley won the second race of his NASCAR K&N Pro Series West career. He won the season opener at Thunder Hill Raceway in Texas in 2009.
Pursley took the lead in the race at Miller Motorsports Park on the first lap and held it for 10 laps. Patrick Long, who won the pole and the race at Miller Motorsports Park last year, took the lead for two laps before Pursley regained it on lap 13. David Mayhew, Moses Smith and Daryl Harr swapped spaces for the lead until lap 19 when Long moved into first for seven laps.
"We got the lead early, on the first lap, and tried to stay in front of Patrick as long as I could," Pursley said. "We came in and pitted. Unfortunately, the catch can got stuck in. So, we had to come back in the next lap and serve our penalty for that."
Pursley passed Long for the lead on lap 34 of the 36-lap race and held on for the final two laps.
"The car was unbelievably awesome," Pursley said. "We got a penalty and we didn't get down. We fought back and we were going."
Pursley has won two poles and has posted three top-five finishes in West Series races this year. He won the pole and led the first 18 laps of the race at Montana Raceway Park before falling back. He won the pole and led the first 41 laps of the race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. A flat tire sent him into the back stretch wall, ending his night at Irwindale.
"We've been so close so many times this year," Pursley said. "We've had terrible luck this year and finally it turned around for us. I've really wanted to win a road course since I've been in this series and it finally happened. I just can't tell you how happy I am."
Eric Curran, making his second career NASCAR K&N Pro Series West start, finished second.
"It's fun to be here," Curran said. "It was a pretty wild race, coming from the back. I love these races. I just love the competition. I love the bumping and banging here and there. It's much different than the normal road racing that I do in the Grand Am Series."
Paulie Harraka finished third and posted his sixth top-five finish in 10 races this season.
"Frustrating. We've been top three the last four road course races," Harraka said. "Haven't won one, so a little frustrated, but all in all and good points day."
Harraka is in third place in the West Series standings after 10 races. He is 37 points behind Mayhew for second place and 178 points behind Eric Holmes, the leader in the West Series standings.
Holmes finished sixth in the race at Miller Motorsports Park. Pursley is seventh in the West Series standings with two races remaining.
The next race is at All American Speedway at Roseville on Oct. 16.
Brian Brown the Grain Valley, Missouri driver and the FVP number 21 race team were awarded with the 410 Knoxville Championship Cup at the Knoxville Raceway in Iowa this past Labor Day. Brown capped off the triumphant evening by also winning the feature race as well. This is Brown's second championship, and the first with his new team.
This was Brian Brown's second 410 Knoxville Championship Cup, but the first with his new team.
"I feel like we have a better team than we did the first time, because we have great partners like FVP and K&N backing us. It is pretty special to win one with our own team though," remarked Brown.
Brown entered the race at Knoxville with an 81 point lead. However, the weekend before he was taken out on the first lap of the feature, and it drove home the point that in racing anything can happen.
"It was a long week after rebuilding the car," said Brown. "Chad (Morgan), Kelby (Hopkins) and all the guys did a great job, as always. I really don't like points racing until November when you get your check. Eighty points seems like a lot, but it really isn't. You don't try to think about it, but you can't help it either."
Just taking the checkered on Saturday at Knoxville, knowing that we were champions, was very special," said Brown. "A lot of work goes into the race team from my crew and it takes a lot of commitment to win races and championships."
Brown and his team won't be celebrating, or resting idle on their laurels for too long, there are still 20 races left on their 2010 schedule. "No rest for the weary," added Brown.
The "Cajun" Jason Johnson currently sits atop the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) national points championship. Jason Johnson Racing (JJR) has accomplished that by being competitive week in and week out, they have in fact notched 17 victories already on the season to this point.
After a huge Labor Day weekend that saw the JJR team earn two wins and a third, Jason Johnson now sits comfortably atop the ASCS National points ranking.
"Our goal for the 2010 season was to win between 20 to 25 events, and we feel here at JJR that we are well on our way to accomplishing our obtainable goal," remarked Johnson.
Over this past Labor Day Weekend the JJR team took several steps closer to obtaining their "big-picture" goal, which is winning the championship, and they did it in statement-making-style, by winning twice and taking one third place finish.
Each year Jason Johnson Racing looks forward to the three-race events with the ASCS Gulf South Series, so they're prepared and psyched from the get-go entering into the weekend. This time around, to add even more incentive, Griffith Trucking put up a bonus of $500 for two of three wins, or a cool $1000 bonus to anyone able to pull off the trifecta.
Team JJR always looks for a challenge, and this was one we wanted to accomplish," said Johnson.
"After a Friday night win at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, the team's second victory came the very next night at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas.
Going into the third night (Speedarama Raceway in Lufkin, Texas) JJR was pumped to stay out front in clean air for the weekend sweep. Unfortunately, after a mid-race contact with another competitor, the K&N number 41 had to restart the race at the rear of the field," added Johnson.
With only 16 of the scheduled 25 laps remaining, Johnson still managed to power his way back into a third place podium finish, capping off a highly successful weekend.
"Even though we missed out on the Labor Day weekend sweep, it was still awesome to win two of three events," said Johnson.
In order to keep his edge on the track Johnson says he trains all week at his local 24 Hour Fitness Center.
"One thing I've learned about being successful is how to manage my days when I need to produce results. To give the team the best possible results, I let them perform the job they do, the preparation and maintenance of the cars. That way, once race time starts, I feel fresh, and I'm able to provide the best results for the JJR team. We definitely thrive off of the pervious night's results, so that way we remain pumped for the next event."
There were a lot of uncertainties going into the 2010 season for the newly assembled Jason Johnson Racing team. "With that in mind, we are very pleased with how the year has developed," says Johnson. "From here to the end of the season, we look to obtain more victories and consistent finishes, we're looking for that all important big picture of obtaining the 2010 National Points Title."
