Bell Family Racing's Amber Bell Starts Season With Trophy at Maple Grove Raceway

A drag racing family from Hershey, Pennsylvania, it's a monochrome description for a full-spectrum, and then some, family, and it's how the Bell Family Racing team describe themselves. Rick Bell and his wife Stephanie have three daughters, Amber is the youngest, then comes Allison, followed by Heather.

For them drag racing isn't a simple hobby pursued occasionally, it's their way of life, and the bond that binds this exceptional family together. By their own estimate they spend somewhere around 22 weeks a year on the road pursuing that passion, and it's anyone's guess how much more time is directed towards racing from home.

Rick uses the same neutral tones when bringing us up to date on how things are going with the K&N sponsored family team. "Well, Amber's junior (dragster) is finally together, up and running. She made it to the second points race this past weekend and went two rounds. She came home with a trophy [from Maple Grove Raceway]. Not a bad way to start off the season."

"Allison will be graduating from high school on June 7th. We, of course, are very proud of her."

"Heather is doing well and getting ready to have her baby next month."

When we spoke last season, Heather had just passed along her junior dragster to Amber, what changes, if any, have you made to the car?

"We got a new body for the car and we were sponsored a paint job, which turned out really well. Amber also got a new helmet which was painted to match the new body." (The paint work was done by Mountain Valley Customs in Millmont, Pennsylvania).

It appears as though Amber really likes her new car, what's her take on racing it? Also, from your perspective how is she doing overall?

"Amber loves her new car. She thinks it's awesome, and has the coolest paint job ever. She loves racing and is doing really well. She has really taken to the sport of drag racing. Her lights are really good for such a young driver. She had several races at the end of last season where she was the top qualifier. In her first race this year, she had a .28 light and was the 13th qualifier out of over 30 racers [at Maple Grove Raceway]."

Give us an update on Allison, how is her racing coming along?

"We had a little snag getting Allison into the driver's seat this year. She is driving a 1968 Camaro, but we had to do a little work on the rear end before she could get to the drag strip this year. She should be racing this weekend."

Congratulations on becoming a grandfather. What are Heather's future racing plans after the baby, or is that something she's not currently thinking about? And is there anything else in the Bell Family racing horizon that you'd care to share?

"Heather is expecting a baby boy this July. Allison is actually racing the car we got for Heather this year, but due to her pregnancy is not able to race. Heather absolutely plans on racing next year, when she will be driving the Camaro, and our plan is to build a new car for Allison for next season."

"We are just excited to be back at the [Maple Grove Raceway] track this year. Our track's points season started a little late, so we have been chomping-at-the-bit to race. Our goal is to do the best we can and to get as much exposure for our sponsors as possible. We will be at several car shows, as well as our usual racing schedule."

K&N has a new installation video demonstrating the simple install process of K&N air intake 57-3021-1. This easy to install performance air intake fits 1999 through 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 models with 4.8L and 5.3L engines. K&N air intakes are guaranteed to increase horsepower, they come with a Million Mile Limited Warranty and they can go up to 100,000 miles before air filter servicing is required, depending on driving conditions.

K&N's 57-3021-1 non-metallic tube dramatically reduces intake restriction as it smoothes and straightens air flow resulting in a guaranteed power gain. Dyno testing was done on a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup with a 5.3 liter engine.  It showed an estimated peak gain of 9 horsepower at 5352 rpm.  K&N's 57-3021-1 is available and easy to install on your Silverado or Sierra 1500 pickup truck, usually in less than 90 minutes. This video provides a summary of the installation process but you should always refer to the 57-3021-1 instruction sheet for full installation details.

Team Gorilla-Axle Powered by Can-Am Cleans House at the 2011 MUD Nationals

In addition to racing, team Gorilla-Axle also does a lot of trail riding for even more exposure for our team and their sponsors.
In addition to racing, team Gorilla-Axle also does a lot of trail riding for even more exposure for our team and their sponsors.
If it works don't fix it, which is why Mud Creek Off-Road Park, just outside of Jacksonville, Texas, once again played host to the High Lifter Mud Nationals. The ATV Mud Nationals started back in 2003, when a few friends, customers, and ATV enthusiasts got together for a weekend of mudding, to showcase products and share ideas. At the present, this once a year event has become the largest utility ATV and UTV event in the world. This year alone more than 10,000 enthusiasts made the 2011 Mud Nationals the largest to date, and all indications are that next year it will grow even larger as more people make peace with their inner mudder.
Gorilla-Axle is the go-to product line for muddin' competitors in event such as High Lifter Mud Nationals.
Gorilla-Axle is the go-to product line for muddin' competitors in event such as High Lifter Mud Nationals.

At this year's Mud Nationals Gorilla Racing, the home team from Jacksonville collected four podium finishes in five classes - first in Pro-A Muddacross (Mark Wise), third in Pro-B (Seth Russell), second in RUV (Mark Wise), and third in the Women's class (Lisa Wise). Gorilla-Axle is the go-to product line for muddin' competitors and with the team's commanding results it easy to understand why.

"Our team, Gorilla Powered by Can-Am, is a factory sponsored team of mud racers from all over the South," the team's General Manager, Greg McMullen, told K&N Race News. "We are currently in our fifth year of sponsorship from Can-Am and we are having great success this year. Every year Can-Am sponsors us new ATVs/RUVs to heavily modify strictly for mud racing. Our racers usually purchase additional Can-Ams to race in other classes along with the sponsored units. This gives us a fleet of up to 25 ATVs/RUVs that are a major presence at every event. In addition to racing, we also do a lot of trail riding for more exposure for our team and our sponsors. This usually garners just as much attention if not more than the races."

In only the first three events of the 2011 season team Gorilla-Axle has already amassed a total of 14 podium finishes.

McMullen continues, "Our success can be attributed to two things - high quality products, combined with preparation. We start with the best ATV available, Can Am, and modify it with Gorilla lift kits, Gorilla Axles, Gorilla Silverback tires, K&N filters, and many more products. Our race experience helps us prep the units so that they perform well in the race at hand."

"We have overall goals we would like to accomplish over the course of the season," adds McMullen, "But to get there we must focus on one race at a time. Winning the overall points championship in each class is our ultimate goal."

Team Gorilla Powered by Can-Am races next in Dozier, Alabama, on June 11.
