Ukraine Drift King Aleksandr Grinchuk Supports Red Bull Kart Fight at 2012 Bologna Motor Show

Despite the cruel Italian winter, or perhaps because of it, stunt riding legend Chris Pfeiffer and Grinchuk ignited the Bologna Motor Show to the delight of cheering crowds.
For most motorsport athletes the winter offseason revolves around rebuilding and regrouping, but that's not the case for Aleksandr Grinchuk and his team. "I was happy to accept the invitation to Red Bull Speed Days during Bologna Motor Show 2012," said the three-time, undisputed Ukraine Drift King.

This year's 37th Bologna International Motor Show, held annually during the first week in December in Bologna, Italy, was reminiscent of a get-together of international motorsport all-stars. "It was nice to meet our Formula 1 friends, Daniel Ricciardo and David Coulthard, who were my show-run partners in Kyiv and Baku in early 2012. And it was great to become friends with Chris Pfeiffer, Carlos Sainz, Sebastian Loeb, Travis Pastrana and others," reported Grinchuk.
Aleksandr Grinchuk spent part of his offseason performing drift stunts in Italy.

Grinchuk was part of an assembly of high caliber motorsport stars supporting the Red Bull Kart Fight, which is the global tournament to determine the fastest amateur kart racer in the World of Red Bull. National competitions held in 20 countries around the planet search for the best racers to represent each country, and those winners then travel to Bologna for the Red Bull Kart Fight World Final. The winner of the World Final is crowned Red Bull Kart Fight World Champion. "It was great to have the Ukrainian finalist in that group of 20 lucky men," stated Grinchuk.

"My team does its best to keep our car ready for any weather conditions, regardless if it is the sultriness of summer in Baku or the ice cold of winter Bologna. That is why it was stunt riding legend Chris Pfeiffer and me who opened the first day of the Kart Fight competition with our cooperative show-run. Right after us, nine-time world rally champion Sebastian Loeb and his WRC Citroen hit the track. But what the fans were waiting for most were the two F1 cars from the Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso teams. And definitely the loudest car of the show was the NASCAR rocket," grinned Grinchuk.

The K&N sponsored driver felt a strong sense of responsibility to kick off the festivities with nothing less than a stellar performance for the massive gathering of Italian fans. "This time it was not only about the usual show-run, but one of the main goals for my team and myself, was to give the largest support possible to 20 guys who did a great job becoming the finalists of the world championship Red Bull Kart Fight 2012."

"The biggest highlight and the most excited feelings came from the competition runs of the Red Bull Kart Fight finalists," Grinchuk continued. "It's nearly impossible to describe how hard each one of the finalists competed, because all of them were the best from their country. I was happy for our Ukrainian guy, Vladislav Shendryk, who managed to get sixth place in such a severe battle. But it was the last turn of the race that made the whole show, that's when the Japanese finalist passed his Russian colleague and became World Kart Fight Champion 2012."

Shinji Sawada won the Red Bull Kart Fight World Championship in spectacular fashion. At the end of 28 incredible laps it came down to a classic crunching clash with 23-year-old Russian Vasily Rozhkov through the final corners. But it was the 13-year-old Japanese driver who emerged in the lead, taking the title in front of the packed grandstands at the Bologna Motor Show.

"The second largest highlight of this weekend for me was the parade of all Red Bull vehicles on the Motorsport Arena all at once. The parade was headed by the three-time Formula 1 Championship car, which was followed by nine-time world rally Champion car. It is a dream for any motorsport driver in the world to take part in such parade. And it came true for me," Grinchuk recollects. "The words of my spotter through the intercom will stay in my memory forever - 'Grinya! Stop doing burnouts, Loeb is pressing!'"

The Arctic Cat TRV1000 Limited replaces the previous Cruiser model name. With features like Electronic Power Steering (EPS), heated driver and passenger handgrips, locking travel case, windshield fairing with integrated mirrors, newly designed aluminum wheels and a winch, it has become the latest gold standard.

The TRV1000's Variable Assist allows steering assistance to the ATV before it even begins to move at idle. The EPS system will reduce the amount of overall rider effort required to steer the ATV when changing direction over obstacles like rocks, deep mud or logs. It does this by feeding steering input force versus tire resistance and vehicle speed information through its electronics, which then provides suitable assist to the steering column through an electric motor.

The 951cc, fuel-injected, V-twin puts out ample horsepower throughout the power-band. Yet by simply upgrading to a K&N AC-1009 reusable air filter, Arctic Cat ATV models listed below can experience the performance air filter designed to increase horsepower and torque, while at the same time receiving outstanding filtration and engine protection.

K&N's Arctic Cat air filter AC-1009 is very easy to install because it simply drops into the OE airbox with the pull tab facing the back of the ATV. K&N performance air filter AC-1009 is made to capture a large amount of dirt and still allow high air flow for long service life. Cleaning your K&N ATV air filter is not a difficult task with K&N's Recharger Filter Care Service Kit. The K&N air filter cleaner and filter oil, included in the kit, will service the AC-1009 so it performs like new again and again.

K&N AC-1009 will fit the following Arctic Cat ATV models:

Rhys Millen Racing Returns to Pikes Peak Hill Climb to Defend Hyundai Record

There are few racers whose names are more synonymous with rally, rally cross, Pikes Peak, drag racing, baja off-road and drifting than Rhys Millen and his racing team, logically named Rhys Millen Racing (RMR). Yet, many are unaware that long before Rhys Millen Racing started using K&N products on all of their race cars, the venerable racing team sold aftermarket K&N panel and sport air intakes to street customers.

When asked why K&N Filters, Rhys replied, "All these disciplines require maximum air flow for performance while requiring maximum engine filtration protection. In all my years if competition I have never had an engine failure due to poor filtration." And none could be more important than at America's second-oldest motor sports race, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Rhys and his team returned to the mountain to defend its 2012 record in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) of 9:46.164.

"Being exposed to the performance advantages that were witnessed as we installed these products on a variety of cars," Rhys continued, "It was no question that K&N was the right choice for our race cars." This time around, six-time champion, and RMR team member, Paul Dallenbach will drive Millen's Hyundai Genesis Coupe that set the all-time record last year.

Unlike all the previous years Hyundai has competed at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, the manufacturer will have two cars; the production-based Genesis Coupe that set last years' all-time record to the peak piloted by Pikes Peak veteran star Dallenbach from Basalt, Colorado, who has won six times previous in the Open Wheel division, as Millen will be piloting a new, purpose-built unlimited class rear-drive racecar in the Unlimited division, which now has 11 entries.

"We're certainly proud to renew our successful partnership with Rhys Millen Racing to take on the unique challenge of international motorsports known as Pikes Peak," voiced Steve Shannon, vice president, marketing, Hyundai Motor America. "Last year's all-time world record, set by Millen in the production-based Genesis Coupe, was a defining milestone in Hyundai's quest to build thrilling and durable rear-drive performance vehicles that are as capable on the road as they are in the rigors of competitive motorsport.

NASCAR Star Ricky Stenhouse Jr Races Sprint Cup Series for 2013 Roush Fenway Racing Season

When Ricky Stenhouse Jr. crossed the finish line at Homestead-Miami Speedway in November, he became only the sixth driver in NASCAR history to win back-to-back Nationwide Series championships. But he wasn't completely happy with the result.

He finished in sixth place in the race, an admittedly disappointing end to his Nationwide Series run with Roush Fenway Racing. "I really wanted to win the championship and the race all at the same time," Stenhouse said.

The rising NASCAR star is moving up to the Sprint Cup Series and will be driving the No. 17 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing in 2013. The race in Miami was his last with his Nationwide Series crew. Together they placed Stenhouse in the same company as Sam Ard, Larry Pearson, Randy LaJoie, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Martin Truex Jr. as the only drivers to win Nationwide Series championships in consecutive years.

Still, Stenhouse said he would have liked to end his stint in the Nationwide Series with Roush Fenway with a little more to celebrate.

"We had a car throughout the race that every now and then that would be OK," Stenhouse said. "All in all it was a great ride, great weekend for us. I was disappointed that we didn't win. Looking back at the things we accomplished this year, thinking about how long I've been with those guys and that was my last race with them. Without winning the race, the last race with those guys, it was pretty tough. I got over that race pretty quick. After the race, I was pretty upset with not winning for sure."

Stenhouse won six races and four poles en route to his second Nationwide Series championship. He won the Nationwide Series races at Kansas Speedway, Chicagoland Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Iowa Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

He credits his crew for preparing quality and reliable cars throughout the season. K&N filters were part of that preparation.

"For us, in the Nationwide side, it's very important for the engine to perform as best it can," Stenhouse said. "Being low on horsepower, it shows when you have extra five additional horsepower. That's definitely a plus. All year long, we never had a K&N part failure. I thought it performed very well."

Stenhouse started racing when he was 6 years old. Even at that early age, his father expected him to work on his own cars if he wanted to race.

"I always enjoyed it. My dad had an engine shop. I grew up tearing down engines for him and also working on the race cars," Stenhouse said. "It's a weird situation now, being in the stock cars and running them and not working on them as much like I used to. I go to the shop quite a bit. It's a different situation, but I definitely grew up working on them all the time." His experience in the garage and in the pits made him appreciate the work his crew put into his stock cars.

"You have to things that can finish the races, but you also have to have things to go out and win championships," Stenhouse said. "We have the best out there. Everybody at Roush Fenway, I feel like they do an awesome job preparing the cars as best they can and also putting the best equipment in there as well."

All that hard work produced two Nationwide Series championships in a row and a place in NASCAR history.

"Obviously that was the goal that we set out to do," Stenhouse said. "I really haven't had time to sit back and think about it. They have me running around. The second championship was huge for us. This year was great. The guys worked very hard. We had our ups and downs, but we pulled it through. That's what makes it satisfying. When we have bad races and when we were behind in points, we battled back. That's what it's all about."

With all the different possible modifications that can be made on vehicles today, using products that look great and fit the job is key. When it comes to universal clamp-on air filters, K&N is the perfect source as they offer hundreds of filters in almost every size and shape you could need.

Adding to this big list of clamp-on air filters are four new inverted top air filters. The inverted top gives the filter more surface area for higher air flow capability and a long service life. These four universal air filters differ from typical universal filters in that they have an adjustable inlet flange allowing for the same air filter to be used with a 3 inch, 3.5 inch or 4 inch round intake tube. The flange size is controlled by using or not using two included inserts. K&N parts RG-1001RD, RG-1001BL, RG-1001WT have a base diameter of 6 inches and they are 5 1/2 inches tall. The only difference between these three air filters is the color of their filter media. RG-1001RD is red, RG-1001BL is blue and RG-1001WT is white. K&N part RG-1002RD has a base diameter of 6 inches but it is 9 1/2 inches tall. It has red filter media. Like other K&N universal air filters these filters use an ultra-strong molded pliable rubber flange, which absorbs vibration and allows for secure attachment.

K&N universal clamp-on air filters are washable and reusable, saving you from having to purchase new disposable paper air filters over and over. Simple to install and service when they get dirty, these filters are backed with a 1 year limited warranty.

To size an air filter for your exact needs and design, simply use the K&N Universal Air Filter Search.
