Customization is defined by Merriam-Webster as "to build, fit or alter according to individual specifications," and a picture of this 1959 Chrysler Imperial is the perfect candidate to sit alongside this definition. With a laundry list of modifications, alterations, iterations, parts and builders, it is hard to say what part of this beautifully designed Chrysler has not been changed. Built by an industry legend, Murray Pfaff of Pfaff Designs, this Chrysler is the pinnacle of perfection from its Dodge Viper modified rear end to its legendary 6.1 liter Hemi V8 motor with custom intake manifold and air box. The list of modifications, custom and OTS parts, as well people both directly and indirectly involved in this journey is a feast for the eyes. Murray set out "to build the sports car that Chrysler never built and re-write history," and did so, in part, by cutting the car "in half five times, at least once in every direction."

Perfection requires patience, time and effort. Logged from the beginning of the build, the total man-hours invested in this masterpiece totaled more than 10,000 hours over a span of 4 years. Talk about obsession. The ex-4 door Imperial has received many awards and accolades including, but not limited to:
  • Outstanding Engineering & Best in Class, Detroit Autorama 2012
  • Barris Award, Muscle Cars at the Mansion 2011
  • Stock to Rock, Eyes on Design Concours 2011
  • HOT ROD Magazine, Power Tour feature - October 2012
  • Mopar Action Magazine - Winter 2013

Murray's search for perfection entails the use of quality materials and he got hooked on K&N when he "first used K&N products over 20 years ago and have never stopped!" Only a man with such passion for the automotive industry and a team of equally passionate and talented members could have designed and built such an amazing work of functional art, and Murray puts it best: "Individually we could have never created such an outstanding ride, but together we did!" Here is a shortened list of the parts and modification to the 1959 Imperial:
  • Painless Performance 18 circuit trunk mount harness
  • 2009 Dodge Viper IRS - narrowed approximately 8"
  • Steering column - Ididit
  • Shock/Strut Manufacturer - KW Suspension
  • Schwartz Performance G-Machine Chassis
  • Muffler Manufacturer - Flowmaster Hushpower
  • Transmission - 518 automatic w/overdrive Model PT 518 SS (street/strip)
  • Engine - 2009 6.1 Mopar SRT HEMI crate motor
For those car enthusiasts inspired to build amazing vehicles, Murray had one thing to say: "Inspiration without action doesn't add up to a whole lot in the real world." We couldn't have put it better ourselves.

Greg Pursley won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season opener at Phoenix International Raceway in record-breaking fashion. He led 56 laps in the Talking Stick Resort 60 and gave Gene Price Motorsports a 1-2 finish in the race.
K&N Pro Series' Pursley set the track record with a qualifying lap at 133.949 mph and won the Coors Light Pole Award.
K&N Pro Series' Pursley set the track record with a qualifying lap at 133.949 mph and won the Coors Light Pole Award.

Pursley set the track record with a qualifying lap at 133.949 mph and won the pole. He led the first 49 laps of the race before teammate, 16-year-old Cameron Hayley, passed him on lap 50. Hayley's turn as the race leader was short-lived. He was out front for only six laps before Pursley regained the lead.

"There was no saving anything at the end," Pursley said. "We had a great car, just really proud of everybody at Gene Price Motorsports."

It set up a 10-lap dash to the finish. Pursley took back the lead on lap 56 and held on for the last four laps of the race.

"It's pretty cool," Pursley said. "He's definitely a 16-year-old kid out of the race car. He likes to play around and everything. He's actually going to be a really good driver. He's got a good head on his shoulders. He's got good equipment as you can see. Gotta keep on top of him and keep his head on right. He's going to be really good. I can't wait to race him every race."

Pursley, the 2011 K&N Pro Series champion, has won three NASCAR races at Phoenix International Raceway. He is tied with Richard Petty for second place in all-time K&N Pro Series West wins at Phoenix. Ken Schrader holds the K&N Pro Series West record with four career wins at Phoenix.

"I'm really looking forward to the season," Pursley said. "We actually built a couple new cars. We have a short track car also. I'm looking forward to going to Stockton with the car that we ran Daytona with. We absolutely dominated Daytona until we got taken out. That car is really good. Cameron's car is the same. I think there's really good things to come here."

Hayley crossed the finish line in second place. He won the K&N Pro Series UNOH Battle of the Beach race at Daytona International Raceway in his debut with Gene Price Motorsports. The Battle of the Beach race was a non-points, all-star for drivers from the K&N Pro Series East and West.

"Both of our cars, my car and Cameron Hayley's car, were brand new cars to come to this race," Pursley said. "It's looking good for us. It's off to a good start. I can't complain."

Hayley started second in the race at Phoenix and had to hold off a charging Michael Self while trying to pass Pursley in the closing laps. "It was tons of fun," Hayley said. "Racing Greg there at the end, he's a great driver, I love to race hard with him like that. We race each other clean and hard. Definitely learned a lot through this race and we'll take it into the next race here in Stockton."

Self came in third place, followed by Derek Thorn in fourth and Sergio Pena in fifth.

"When the opportunity presents itself, you've got to take it," said Self, who won the K&N Pro Series West race at Phoenix in November. "We had an opening, so we did everything we could there. I think maybe a couple more green flag laps and we might have been able to make something of it. We just didn't have the short-run car that we needed."

The next race on the K&N Pro Series West schedule is at Stockton 99 Speedway on May 4.

The muscle car war is back!  The era of powerful cars accelerating from stop to cruising speed has come full swing with the three big power houses laying down rubber with massive horsepower and great handling muscle cars based on their legendary late 60’s predecessors.  Dodge with the massive 6.4 liter Challenger, Ford with their mind boggling 650 horsepower GT500 and Chevrolet with the already legendary Camaro ZL1. All of these cars are impressive in their own rights but for Chevy fans all over the world, the rivalry with the Mustang is a long and arduous one that has brought out the best in both.

K&N Air Intake System for 2012 to 2015 Chevy Camaro ZL1

The Camaro SS was already a formidable muscle car with the powerful 6.2 liter V8 churning out 425 horsepower, but Camaro fans wanted more.  Not wanting to sell their first born for the most powerful production Corvette, the ZR1, Camaro fans got their wish when GM’s performance division transplanted a version of the LSA into the Camaro.  That’s when the Chevy Camaro ZL1 was born.  Producing a Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar Gen 2 tire shredding 580 horsepower and 556 lb-ft of torque, the Camaro ZL1 is not only a thrill to drive but also super car worthy competitor.  With magnetically controlled suspension and power like this, what more could ZL1 owner’s ask for?

K&N has decided to squeeze more horsepower out of the already potent LSA motor by replacing the restrictive stock intake system with a high performance, free flowing air intake system. K&N's 63-3079 is made almost completely out of light weight super strong carbon fiber. The air intake system not only looks the part but acts the part as well.  What Chevy Camaro ZL1 owner wouldn't want additional horsepower? K&N performance air intake 63-3079 was designed for 2012 to 2015 Chevy Camaro ZL1 models with the 6.2 liter engine and when tested showed an incredible gain of an estimated 31.7 horsepower at 4300 RPM and 39.7 lb-ft of torque at 3300 RPM.

Performance air intake system 63-3079 comes with K&N's RP-5168 carbon fiber topped, washable and reusable high performance air filter.  The RP-5168 air filter provides a massive amount of air flow into the hungry supercharger while still providing excellent filtration to protect all of the internal components. More power and great protection is what makes K&N’s quality air intake system hard to match.  This Chevy Camaro ZL1 air intake is also backed by K&N’s famous Million Mile Limited Warranty and since horsepower is the name of the game, K&N 63-3079 air intake system is a welcome addition to any horsepower seeker’s entourage.

K&N makes other air intakes for Chevy Camaro models and they can be seen on the Chevy Camaro Air Intake page. To find K&N products for any vehicle, use the K&N application search then the K&N dealer search to find a K&N dealer in your part of the world.
