Twister Motorsports completed the 2013 race season with mixed results in Utica Rome Speedway ESS 360 winged sprint and Bridgeport Speedway 410 open race.
Trenton, NJ (January 2, 2014) - The Twister Motorsports team has completed the 2013 season with mixed results from the different classes they raced, which included Utica Rome Speedway ESS 360 winged sprint and Bridgeport Speedway 410 open race.
Despite placing low in September at New Egypt URC 360 winged sprint and Selinsgrove 360 National, Twister Motorsports managed to place 4th and 5th at Williams Grove 410 World of Outlaws National in October. One issue Bitner believes hindered their performance was a lacking motor, which proved to be unsuitable for the racing grove.
"This year was a little up and down with no wins but some close ones," said Mark Bitner, owner and driver for Twister Motorsports. "We have figured out some of our problems, and we are looking forward to 2014 and being in the winners circle."
Twister Motorsports placed 4th and 5th at Williams Grove 410 World of Outlaws National in October.
From local racing in his early years to Micro Sprints 250cc and URC 360 competitions, Bitner has covered a wide variety of racetracks. Throughout his racing career Bitner has won races in each class he has raced and acquired a 410 engine. His driving highlights include winning at a 360-sprint feature at Lincoln Speedway. K&N Filters has been a faithful sponsor of Twister Motorsports for over a decade.
"K&N's filters are second to none. They keep the dirt, air and oil out of our engines. They are easy to clean, easy to use and last through the toughest conditions," said Bitner.
In addition to using K&N products, Twister Motorsports decided to paint their car black with orange stripes to resemble the K&N look.
"We are not a high-dollar team, but we put our money into the cars to make them fast," said Bitner. "We do our best to represent our sponsors in a professional and well-maintained manner."
One interesting change for the team was a new number for the 2014 season. Bitner chose F5 to play off his nickname, "Mr. Twister," referencing an F5 tornado rating. The team is currently working on releasing a schedule for the 2014 season.
"This year we are going to mainly concentrate on running Selinsgrove with our 360 car," said Bitner. "We will also run some select 410 winged shows and 305 winged and unwinged shows. We will attend the USAC Eastern Storm week of racing in June."

Winged Sprint Car Team Western Speed Racing's Tim Skoglund and Cody Gerhardt
Western Speed Racing driver Tim Skoglund won the Western Pabst Blue Ribbon Winged Series championship at Madera Speedway.
He won two races in the series of winged sprint cars and super modified cars. The first was in the 10th annual Fred Gerhardt Classic in July. Gerhardt is the grandfather of Cody Gerhardt, who also drives for Western Speed Racing, and the father of Kevin Gerhardt, the owner and manager of the team.
Skoglund had one runner-up finish and two third-place finishes in addition to his two wins at Madera Speedway.
Western Speedway Racing is planning an ambitious sprint car racing campaign in 2014.
"You can't have any DNFs. You can't have any mechanical failures," said Skoglund, driver of the No. 60 K&N Western Speed Racing Ignite Midget. "You gotta be spot on in order to pull through the whole year."
He won his second race in August and took over the lead in the standings. Skoglund qualified second in his heat race and started the main event on the outside of the second row.
Cody Gerhardt won his heat race and started on the front row of the race. But a crash at the start of the race collected Gerhardt and knocked him out of the race.
Skoglund avoided the collision and went on to win the race.
But Skoglund's championship season didn't start off so promising. He didn't post his first podium finish until the third race of the six-race season. He didn't notch his first win until the fourth race.
"The second race was terrible. I was chasing my tail," Skoglund said. "We go into the third race and I came out to the track and it was the same result. It was just wasn't what I was looking for."
Cody Gerhardt finished in sixth place in the Winged Series standings at Madera Speedway, the team's home track. He didn't finish on the podium in any of the six races.
Skoglund had one runner-up finish and two third-place finishes in addition to his two wins at Madera Speedway.
He said he had the most success at Meridian Speedway in Idaho. During a three-day event over Memorial Day weekend, he posted a second-place finish. But he also crashed on the last day of the Diamond Cup at Meridian Speedway.
"A lot of it was bad luck," Gerhardt said. "Most of it was a learning curve, running the winged series this year."
With a track championship, Western Speedway Racing is planning an ambitious campaign in 2014. The team plans to race at tracks all across the country. It's not only a way to test the team's drivers against the top competition in the country, but a way to spread the word about the team's sponsors, like K&N.
"I'm just excited for the opportunity for one," Skoglund said. "To see so many places, it will be fun to figure out how to get the car to handle in a hurry. Making the adjustments as a driver, it's going to be fast, but I'm up for it."
Gerhardt said he is looking forward to racing at the tracks in the Midwest.
"I feel confident knowing what to expect going back East," Gerhardt said. "I'd like to see the most improvement at my home track."

The Brutus line of electric motorcycles are powerful eco-friendly bikes that come in three styles; the Brutus V9 cruiser, the Brutus 2 sport bike and the Brutus 2 Café racer.
Motorcycles have been a staple in American culture since they were first introduced in the second half of the 19th Century. The quintessential symbol of freedom and rebellion, the motorcycle has been a symbol of disobeying the rules and defying convention. One of the most famous motorcycle manufacturers has captured this image better than any other; Harley Davidson. From the Terminator movies to Ghost Rider, these iconic cruisers are as rebellious as they come, until now. Through the standard noise of an internal combustion motor comes the silence of a powerful electric motor. Welcome to the Brutus line of electric motorcycles.
The cooling fans for the motor need just as much protection against harmful dust and dirt as the typical internal combustion engine so Chris Bell turned to K&N for an answer.
Created in 2009 by owner Chris Bell, these split personality, eco-friendly yet powerful bikes come in three readily available styles; the Brutus V9 cruiser, the Brutus 2 sport bike and the Brutus 2 Café racer. The powerful Harley Davidson-based V9 comes equipped with a 9" DC motor cranking out a ground churning 125 hp and 277 ft-lbs of torque. Capable of a top speed, limited only by gearing, of 125 mph, the Brutus V9 sets the curve on the ground breaking electric bike segment. "If we say it's going to do it, there are no excuses, it's going to do it," says Chris. With batteries the same as those used in the popular Tesla lineup, the Brutus motorcycles have modern technologies wrapped up in recognizable body work. With this much power comes the great responsibility to keep things cool while the throttle is twisted. This is where K&N comes into play.
K&N RC-5052AB Apollo universal air filter kit was the perfect solution for high flow performance and excellent motor protection.
The main goal behind building these fun to ride yet revolutionary bikes was to use as many parts from American companies as possible while maintaining a competitive cost and quality to rival even the big guys. The cooling fans for the motor need just as much protection against harmful dust and dirt as the typical internal combustion engine so Chris turned to K&N for an answer. The RC-5052AB Apollo universal air filter kit was the fix for this dilemma. Filtering the contaminants out of the air while providing plenty of air flow to the cooling system was just one major part of the Apollo's purpose; the other was its eye catching design that matched the Brutus V9 perfectly. Built with quality in mind, the K&N RC-5052AB intake kit provides great flow rates for small displacement motors, and even zero displacement motors.
One of the great features of the Brutus motorcycle line is that they use parts commonly found on Harley Davidson and Suzuki GSXR motorcycles. This makes it easy to customize the Brutus to meet any taste. With the future of the motorcycle industry embracing newer and better technologies, the ability of the manufacturer to maintain a leading edge product while still keeping costs low is a constant battle that will continue into the foreseeable future. With companies such as Brutus Motorcycles and K&N on the forefront, great products at a great price will continue to be available for a long time to come.
Jonathan Allard had to settle for second in the King of the West championship last season but he vows to reclaim the title in 2014.
"The trip back was rough," affirmed Chico, California's Jonathan Allard after his long flight back from the southern hemisphere. Every winter the K&N sponsored driver travels halfway around globe to compete in New Zealand. This year he opted to return early and compete in the King of the West season finale event at the New Stockton 99 Speedway.
"I was real excited to race at California's newest speedway," continued Allard, "It's a very fast and demanding track! I was focused on trying to be in a position to strike on the points lead if the point leader had any misfortune. The added event created some additional demands for me, as I had already committed to my overseas opportunity to defend the Western Springs title. But Stockton is a great place and it allows the KWS series to showcase the talent and competitive drivers that we have on the West Coast."
"When the King of the West added the race at Stockton halfway through the year, the schedule in New Zealand had already been set, and luckily this weekend opened up, and I was able to come back and finish the deal out for Morrie and Katie Williams, and all of my guys."
The K&N Allard Motorsports car finished second in the 2013 Springs Speedway International Series in Auckland, New Zealand.
And by "finish the deal out . . ." Allard references the news that 2013 is his last season with Williams Motorsports, he will be spend the 2014 season racing for his new team, Tri-C Motorsports.
With 35 cars competing in the 410 class in the King of the West Series in Stockton, Allard jumpstarted his night by timing in second fastest during time trials, which positioned him in the second row for the heat race. After taking second in his heat Allard was set to transfer into the feature event.
Allard started the feature on the second row and when the race got underway he immediately tucked into the third spot as he chased after race leader, Kyle Hirst, and second place, Rico Abreu. At the halfway point, Allard had moved into the second spot as he now chased after Abreu, but the youngster was too good on this night, and Allard ended his night finishing second in both the race and the series standings.
In the 360 class, Allard again kicked his night off in a big way by timing in with the fastest lap during qualifications this time, before scoring a third place finish in his heat. Then on the start of the feature, a car got into Allard, jacking him upside down, and his night was over in that feature before it had a chance to start.
"Overall it was a pretty good night for us," Allard said. "We had a ton of speed in both cars and that is always a good thing. I have to congratulate Kyle Hirst on winning the championship. It is an elite group of drivers, and something that is not easy."
Recapping his overall 2013 season Allard remarked, "This was a season of extreme highs and lows for our team. We were able to have a great many wins and a few key DNFs that cost us the KWS title. I feel very fortunate to be involved with such great partners that support our team, and that is what makes the difference when things don't go our way on the track. The involvement of great sponsors like K&N helps us to battle hard and strive for the successes that came our way."
"After Stockton I made my way Back to New Zealand to continue my battle for the Springs Speedway International Series. It was a high paced, action packed, event spread over two weeks. The K&N Allard Motorsports car was in contention to win both events, battling with two of racing's greatest drivers in Donny Shatz and Sammy Swindell. Finishing second in the international series was great for us, and it made for a USA clean sweep of the top three spots. We look to continue to run at Springs Speedway in Auckland, New Zealand until the racing gets underway at home," Allard adds, "and we can look to take back the KWS crown in 2014."
