2015 and 2016 Hyundai Genesis Luxury Sedan 5.0L V8 Can Improve Performance with K&N Air Filters

2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis 5.0L V8 equipped with two K&N replacement air filters

The 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis 5.0L V8 was equipped with dual air boxes due to its need to breathe, and K&N replacement air filters, number 33-5020
and 33-5021, will provide increased airflow

The word genesis means can mean origin or beginning. In the case of Hyundai Motors, the Hyundai Genesis Sedan signals the company’s beginning in the luxury car market. Another first for the Korean automaker is the Genesis Sedan’s optional 5.0L Tau GDI V8 engine. The 5.0L Tau GDI V8 features all aluminum construction, dual overhead camshafts, dual continuously variable valve timing, and gasoline direct injection. This technology packed V8 coupled with an over square bore and stroke makes for a potent and lively naturally aspirated 420 horsepower V8.

K&N air filters will provide an increase in airflow, and long service intervals without sacrificing engine protection

Filtration testing was performed on both 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan 5.0L replacement air filters to ensure the K&N high-flow replacement air filters will provide an increase in airflow, and long service intervals without sacrificing engine protection

Engine technologies aside, most Hyundai Genesis Sedan owners are attracted to this luxury car’s list of standard equipment and price tag. Loads of standard in-car technology, safety equipment, and ample amounts of power has put the Hyundai Genesis Sedan 5.0L trim level on par with cars from other automakers, such as the BMW 535i, Audi A6, and the Lexus GS350. However, the Hyundai Genesis Sedan has its competition beat with over 100 more horsepower and a price tag that is thousands of dollars less. Combine those benefits with the best warranty in the industry and the Hyundai Genesis Sedan 5.0L is the smart buyer’s choice.

A 420 horsepower V8 needs to breathe, and another thing Hyundai did right with the Genesis Sedan was to use a dual air filter box and dual air filter set up. However, from K&N’s perspective, equipping the 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan 5.0L with ordinary disposable air filters was an error on Hyundai’s part. K&N replacement air filters are made with K&N’s specially woven cotton gauze filter media. Because cotton, by nature, is more breathable than the paper found in typical automotive air filters, a K&N replacement air filter can provide an increase in airflow. More air and less restriction for the 5.0L Tau GDI V8 powered Hyundai Genesis Sedan can result in a boost in horsepower, torque, and better acceleration.

A K&N replacement high-flow air filter is an easy to install performance upgrade for just about any car on the road. Most K&N replacement performance air filters can be installed in 5 minutes or less inside the stock air filter box and without any need for modifications. Since the 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan 5.0L uses two air filters installation time should be under 10 minutes. K&N high-flow replacement air filter 33-5020 is designed as a direct air filter cross reference for the 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan 5.0L right (passenger) side air filter box. K&N replacement performance air filter 33-5021 is designed to replace the disposable factory air filter inside the Hyundai Genesis Sedan 5.0L left (driver) side air box. Both of these air filters are expert engineered and made in the USA with an application specific design for excellent fit.

The pleated cotton gauze air filter media provides a large surface area, and because of a K&N air filter’s depth loading properties they are able to provide long service intervals. A K&N replacement air filter used in typical highway driving conditions can go up to 50,000 miles before service is required. When it does come time to service your K&N replacement air filter, the process can be done quickly and easily using one of the readily available K&N Recharger air filter service kits. The ability to wash and reuse a K&N washable air filter means that it will pay for itself over time. Plus, the fact that a K&N replacement air filter can go up to 50,000 miles between cleanings means it will be several years before you need to think about cleaning your K&N air filter.

K&N offers more piece of mind by performing filtration efficiency testing following the internationally recognized ISO 5011 protocol with ISO coarse test dust to ensure that our air filters will provide high airflow without sacrificing engine protection. Filtration testing on both 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan 5.0L replacement air filters shows an overall filtration efficiency rating of over 98.5%. This means that although a K&N high-flow replacement air filter will provide an increase in airflow, and long service intervals, it does not do so at the expense of filtration efficiency or engine protection. K&N has made these filtration test results available on the product page for each of the 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan 5.0L replacement air filters.

The K&N replacement reusable air filters for 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan 5.0L Tau GDI V8 models are manufactured in the United States and backed by the K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty. Replacement air filters 33-5020 and 33-5021 are designed to provide increased performance, reusability, and long air filter service intervals without any need for modifications or tuning. Additionally, the factory warranty will remain in effect while using a K&N replacement air filter. If your dealer or service department should give you a hard time, please feel free to reach out to K&N at 1-800-858-3333.

K&N has developed a replacement performance air filter for the following Hyundai Genesis Sedan models:

2016 Hyundai Genesis 5.0L V8 - Right Side Air box
2016 Hyundai Genesis 5.0L V8 - Left Side Air box
2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0L V8 - Right Side Air box
2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0L V8 - Left Side Air box

K&N 33-5020 serves as an air filter cross reference for Hyundai filter, number 28128B1000. K&N 33-5021 is designed to replace Hyundai air filter, number 28127B1000.

K&N air filters for Hyundai Genesis models can be found on the Hyundai Genesis Air Filters page. K&N products for other vehicles can be found using the Vehicle Search Tool. To find a K&N dealer near you, use Search for K&N Dealer.

Cory Kruseman Made the Trip to Tulsa Oklahoma for 2015 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals

Cory Kruseman in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the 2015 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals for the #21K car

Cory Kruseman’s week in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the 2015 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals began with flash photography as the team revealed a new aerodynamic body design for the #21K car

In 1987 race organizers Emmet Hahn and Lanny Edwards organized a two-night race event in the Tulsa, Oklahoma metropolitan area on an indoor quarter-mile racetrack at the Tulsa Expo Raceway. The Midget Nationals received its name from the Chili Bowl Food Company who sponsored the first event nearly thirty years ago. Similar to the way a warm bowl of chili brings comfort on a cold day in the dead of winter, the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals brings heated racing to spectators and drivers two weeks after Christmas in a part of the United States often covered in snow.

The Chili Bowl Midget Nationals has grown exponentially and now takes place over the course of four nights with hundreds of racers hoping to qualify for the A-Main on Saturday night. Racers such as Ventura, California resident Cory Kruseman travel halfway across the country to try their luck in the Chili Bowl with hopes of taking home a Golden Driller trophy. The Golden Driller trophy takes its likeness from a 76 foot tall statue of an oil worker leaning on an oil derrick removed from a depleted oil field in Seminole, Oklahoma. The Golden Driller statue is Tulsa, Oklahoma’s most recognizable monument.

Cory Kruseman’s 2015 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals third place finish in Vacuworx Invitational Race of Champions

Cory Kruseman’s 2015 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals racing began with a third place finish in the Vacuworx Invitational Race of Champions which pits past winners against one another

Previous Chili Bowl winners include Tony Stewart, five-time winner Sammy Swindell, and Sammy’s son Kevin who has four wins to his name. The 2015 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals was the 29th annual running of the indoor midget race and the K&N sponsored team of Kruseman Motorsports left their home base in Ventura, California and traveled east with high hopes. Cory Kruseman is an accomplished sprint car and midget racer with two past Chili Bowl wins on his resume in 2000 and again in 2004. Having raced for most of his life, Cory also operates Cory Kruseman’s Sprint Car and Midget Driving School.

Cory began his week of racing in Tulsa, Oklahoma with the 7th annual Vacuworx Invitational Race of Champions (VIROC). For 2015 sixteen drivers made the cut for the VIROC event, with $2,500 on the line for whoever took the win. Cory Kruseman’s best VIROC finish, prior to the 2015 event, had been seventh place in 2014. This time around Cory would start from the fifth position and quickly work his way up to second place. A yellow flag late in the VIROC forced the field to restart. Cory Kruseman went to the bottom of the track in an attempt to take the lead from Sammy Swindell, however a bottleneck cost Cory a position and he would end up taking third behind Sammy and Bryan Clauson.

Cory Kruseman started the B Feature in 11th at 2015 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals

Cory Kruseman started the B Feature in 11th and within three laps he began to make his way forward in the pack, however, Cory’s luck began to run out, as his tire began to run out of air

Cory started B Feature 1 in the 11th position and within three laps he was beginning to make his way forward in the pack. However, Cory’s luck began to run out, as his right rear tire began to run out of air. Cory held onto the number 21K midget and finished B Feature 1. In the end Cory would rank 30th out of 326 drivers, which isn’t exactly how the two time Chili Bowl champion would have liked to ended up. However, Cory and the Kruseman Motorsports team won’t let their 2015 finish discourage them, and the team is already making plans for the 2016 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.

In a daring pass just after the A-Main’s hallway point, Rico Abreu snuck past 2014 Chili Bowl champion Bryan Clauson. Kevin Swindell was involved in a crash early on in the race and subsequently had to make his way back toward the front. Kevin was able to move into second place, however he could not close in on Rico Abreu. Bryan Clauson made contact with Daryn Pittman on lap 39 and was sent to the back of the field. This allowed Damion Gardner to take home a third place finish in the 2015 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.

Full Size Toyota Tundra V6, or V8 Trucks Can Receive Upgraded Performance from K&N

K&N air intake for 2003-2004 Toyota Tundra 3.4L V6

By reducing intake tract restriction and increasing airflow, a 2003-2004 Toyota Tundra 3.4L V6 can experience a guaranteed increase in horsepower

During the 1980’s and 1990’s Toyota’s legendary reputation for building a reliable and economical pickup helped to cement Toyota’s position in the compact pickup truck market. It seemed only logical that Toyota would enter into the North American full-size pickup truck market and so Toyota did in 1993 with the Toyota T100. However, Toyota’s first attempt at taking a bite out of the Big Three automakers’ share of the full-size pickup market was relatively unsuccessful. Although the T100 was economical, and affordable, it was still smaller than its competition and lacked the option of a V8 engine.

Not to be discouraged, Toyota came out swinging in 1999 with the all-new Toyota Tundra introduced for the 2000 model year. In comparison to its predecessor, the 2000 Toyota Tundra was larger and for the first time a Toyota truck had a 4.7L I-Force V8 engine as an available option. Toyota carried over the tried and true 3.4L V6 engine as standard equipment, however Tundra owners who opted for the 4.7L I-Force V8 were rewarded with 150 more horsepower and 100 lb-ft more torque than the V6. K&N has made upgrading performance first generation 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 Toyota Tundra 3.4L V6 easy for owners with the superior filtration and superior performance that K&N is famous for.

K&N Toyota T100, the 2000 Toyota Tundra truck with air intake for hauling

In comparison to its predecessor, the Toyota T100, the 2000 Toyota Tundra was larger and for the first time a Toyota truck had a 4.7L I-Force V8 engine as an available option

A K&N replacement air filter 33-2144 is an easy 5 minute upgrade for 2000-2005 Toyota Tundra pickups with the 3.4L V6. For a guaranteed increase in horsepower, a 2000, 2001, or 2002 Toyota Tundra 3.4L can be upgraded with a K&N air intake system 57-9019. By reducing intake tract restriction and increasing airflow, this air intake was able to provide an estimated 5.02 additional horsepower on an otherwise stock 2000 Toyota Tundra 3.4L. Owners of 2003 and 2004 3.4L V6 Tundra models should purchase K&N performance air intake 63-1043.

Toyota’s 4.7L I-Force V8 is a capable engine, however that doesn’t mean that owners couldn’t use a little extra horsepower, torque, and throttle response for towing, passing, or daily driving. 2000-2006 Toyota Tundra 4.7L V8 models have an easy drop-in performance air filter option from K&N 33-2144. In addition to the high-flow air filter upgrade, K&N offers a performance air intake system for the Toyota Tundra.

2003-2004 Toyota Tundra 4.7L V8 owners can choose an aluminum air intake system 77-9020KP with a mirror like finish shown to make an estimated additional 10.8 horsepower. Or for a more original equipment look, K&N offers air intake systems made with black rotationally molded high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The roto-molded HDPE air intake tubes offer more flexibility in design, and often times a greater increase in power over an equivalent aluminum air intake.

K&N air intake 77-9027KP for 2005-2007 Toyota Tundra 4.7L pickups

A choice of a mirror like aluminum air intake, 77-9027KP, or a black roto-molded HDPE air intake, number 63-9027, is offered for owners of 2005, 2006, and 2007 Toyota Tundra 4.7L pickups

2000 and 2001 Toyota Tundra 4.7L V8 models can be equipped with K&N air intake 57-9014-1 that has been tested on the dyno to provide an estimated 14.2 more horsepower. 2002, 2003, and 2004 Toyota Tundra 4.7L I-Force V8 owners can benefit from installing K&N air intake 57-9020 which was shown to provide an estimated additional 13.68 horsepower gain.

2005 brought some big changes in the power department for the Toyota Tundra. The 4.0L 1GR-FE V6 engine, brought over from the new second generation Tacoma, replaced the 3.4L V6 as the Toyota Tundra’s standard engine. The 2005 Toyota Tundra 4.0L V6 was rated at 236 horsepower, which was only 9 less horsepower than the 2004 Toyota Tundra 4.7L I-Force V8. Simple performance upgrades for the 2005-2006 Toyota Tundra 4.0L V6 can help, or potentially eliminate, that horsepower gap. A K&N high-flow replacement air filter 33-2281 is an excellent start to upgrading 2005-2006 Toyota Tundra 4.0L performance. However, one of the best bangs for the buck is a high-flow K&N air intake system.

2005 Toyota Tundra 4.0L V6 engine with K&N air intake

2005 brought some big changes in the power department for the Toyota Tundra, the 4.0L 1GR-FE V6 engine was introduced, and the 4.7L 2UZ-FE V8 received VVT-i technology

Owners of 2005 and 2006 Toyota Tundra 4.0L V6 models can choose from a mirror like aluminum air intake system 77-9028KP shown to provide an estimated additional 8.33 horsepower or a black HDPE air intake K&N air intake number 63-9028. When tested on a 2005 Toyota Tundra 4.0L, 63-9028 was shown to provide an estimated additional 11.43 more horsepower at 5,159 RPM.

Not to be outdone by the 4.0L 1GR-FE V6 engine from the Toyota Tacoma, Tundra engineers upgraded the Tundra’s 4.7L I-Force V8 engine with variable valve timing (VVT-i) technology. This increased the 2005 Toyota Tundra 4.7L V8’s horsepower rating up an additional 40 horsepower and nearly 60 lb-ft of torque. An engine with variable valve timing can often benefit from the increased airflow and reduced restriction offered by a K&N air filter.

K&N cold air intake for 2007-2011 Toyota Tundra 5.7L pickup trucks

2007-2011 Toyota Tundra 5.7L pickup trucks can quickly bolt on an estimated horsepower gain of over 13 horsepower with the mirror like aluminum air intake, number 77-9031-1KP

2005-2006 Toyota Tundra 4.7L models can receive a quick boost in performance from K&N replacement air filter 33-2144. Better yet is the increased performance and guaranteed increase in horsepower offered by a K&N air intake system. A choice of a mirror like air intake aluminum air intake 77-9027KP, or a black roto-molded HDPE 63-9027 can offer owners of 2005, 2006, and 2007 Toyota Tundra 4.7L pickups an estimated increase of 8.69 and 9.54 additional horsepower, respectively.

While the Tundra was larger than its predecessor, the T100, and offered a V8 engine it was still criticized as undersized and underpowered compared to larger full-size trucks from American automakers Ford, Chevy, and Dodge. So once again Toyota took on the Tundra’s critics by introducing the larger second generation Toyota Tundra for the 2007 model year. The second generation effectively squashed complaints about the Tundra being small, but the second blow came from Toyota with the introduction of an all-new 5.7L 3UR-FE V8 engine. The dual VVT-i 5.7L V8 was rated at a whopping 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. The 4.0L 1GR-FE V6 engine was still slotted as standard equipment for base models, and the 4.7L 2UZ-FE I-Force V8 was still offered in 2007.

5.7L 381 horsepower Tundra using K&N air intake for extra power

The 5.7L 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque second gen Tundra’s 3UR-FE engine has plenty of power for most situations, however, there are times where a boost in power is handy

The power of the 5.7L V8 engine might leave owners of 4.0L V6 powered second generation Toyota Tundra pickups searching for a little extra power. 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 Toyota Tundra 4.0L trucks can be upgrade with a simple drop-in replacement air filter, number 33-2281, or the choice of two K&N air intake systems. Aluminum air intake 77-9033KP was shown to provide an estimated 9.68 more horsepower for a 2007 Toyota Tundra 4.0L and black HDPE air intake 63-9033 shows a similar estimated horsepower gain. Owners of 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 Toyota Tundra trucks with a 4.0L V6 engine can upgrade their truck simply with the installation of high-flow replacement K&N air filter 33-2387. The 4.0L V6 engine has been dropped from the Toyota Tundra’s list of available engines for the 2015 model year.

The same performance air filter that fits 2011-2014 Toyota Tundra 4.0L V6 trucks will add performance to 2007-2013 V8 powered Toyota Tundra pickups. The Toyota Tundra received a face-lift for the 2014 model year. But with those visual changes also came some slight mechanical changes. One such change was an all-new stock air filter box. This required K&N engineers to develop K&N high-flow replacement air filter 33-5017 for 2014-2017 Toyota Tundra V8 models.

K&N air intake system for 2010 Toyota Tundra 4.6L

K&N air intake system, number 63-9035, was shown to provide an additional estimated horsepower gain of 13.75 HP and 10.61 lb-ft of torque on a stock 2010 Toyota Tundra 4.6L

The 4.7L I-Force V8 first introduced in the 2000 Toyota Tundra, and later updated in 2005, continued to be offered in the second generation Tundra for 2007, 2008, and 2009. 2007-2009 Toyota Tundra owners who could use a little extra horsepower, without the expense of the 5.7L V8 upgrade, can count on K&N to provide a guaranteed increase in horsepower and torque. With the installation of a black HDPE air intake system 63-9032-1 or aluminum air intake 77-9032-1KP, 2007-2009 Toyota Tundra 4.7L V8 trucks can increase horsepower by an estimated gain of more than 8 additional horsepower.

In 2010 Toyota replaced the 4.7L V8 engine with a 4.6L 1UR-FE V8 engine originally used in Lexus models in the Middle East. This new smaller engine belongs to the same engine family as the Tundra’s 5.7L engine. It shares the 5.7L engine’s 94 mm bore, but with a shorter stroke. 2010-2015 Toyota Tundra pickups with the 4.6L engine can bolt on a K&N air intake system for an upgrade in performance in around 90 minutes. Black HDPE air intake system 63-9035 was shown to provide an additional estimated horsepower gain of 13.75 horsepower and 10.61 lb-ft of torque on an otherwise stock 2010 Toyota Tundra 4.6L. 2010-2015 Toyota Tundra 4.6L owners who want to improve their trucks appearance and increase horsepower can do so with K&N’s aluminum air intake system 77-9035KP.

Toyota replaced the 4.7L V8 engine with a 4.6L 1UR-FE V8 engine

Toyota replaced the 4.7L V8 engine with a 4.6L 1UR-FE V8 engine originally used in Lexus models for the Middle East however, this new engine belongs to the same family as the 5.7L V8

The 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque offered by the second generation Toyota Tundra’s 5.7L 3UR-FE V8 is probably more than enough power for most situations. However, there are times such as towing, hauling a fully loaded bed, or even off-roading where a boost in horsepower can come in handy. Once again K&N has stepped in to offer a bolt on performance upgrade that can be installed in around 90 minutes and with basic hand tools for the 5.7L Toyota Tundra.

2007-2011 Toyota Tundra 5.7L pickup truck owners can quickly bolt on an estimated horsepower gain of over 13 horsepower with black HDPE air intake system 63-9031-1, or the mirror like aluminum air intake 77-9031-1KP. Both of these air intake systems are guaranteed to increase horsepower and performance and are backed by a lifetime limited warranty. 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 Toyota Tundra 5.7L pickups can also bolt on more horsepower with either black roto-molded HDPE air intake 63-9036, or aluminum air intake system 77-9036KP.

So now that the Tundra is big, has a powerful 5.7L V8 engine, and can tow just as well as the competition, what’s left for the critics to complain about? Hardcore fans of the Big Three automakers certainly can’t complain about the Tundra being foreign built, as it has always been assembled in the U.S. As pickup trucks with diesel engines continue to grow in popularity it is plain to see that Toyota is leaving a gap in its offerings. In 2007 when the Tundra was first introduced Toyota showcased a diesel powered dually Tundra concept to target the heavy duty ¾ ton pickup market. Unfortunately a down turn in the global economy and slumping sales put a diesel powered Tundra development on hold. Perhaps the third generation Toyota Tundra will once again utilize a list of first-time offerings for a Toyota truck.
