Improve Ford Fusion Performance with K&N Air Intake Upgrades from K&N Air Filters

The Ford Fusion mid-size sedan was first introduced to the Americas in 2005 for the 2006 model year. The Fusion is slotted between the compact Ford Focus and the full-size Ford Taurus. A mid-size sedan offering had been missing from the Ford Motor Co. lineup since the discontinuation of the Ford Contour. With the Fusion, Ford was able to offer buyers looking for something that is “more car” than a Focus, but not as big or expensive as the Taurus. At its introduction the Ford Fusion combined styling, handling, and a “fun to drive” experience into a package aimed to take a chunk out of Toyota Camry and Honda Accord sales. Subscribers of Car and Driver and Road and Track magazines favored the American Ford Fusion over both the Camry and Accord in head-to-head comparisons.

Most car enthusiasts wouldn’t view the Ford Fusion as a performance vehicle. However, timing of its introduction aligned with Generation X buyers as they began to look for a practical, but fun, sedan. After all, once Gen-X’ers came of age and started families those small Honda Civics so popular just a few years earlier were beginning to feel very cramped. So for Ford Fusion owners that probably grew up during the sport compact tuner era, K&N has made it easy to add a performance upgrade to Ford Fusion models with a K&N air intake system. Michael Cannon from Texas recently wrote into K&N about his Ford Fusion intake 63-2588 and stated how pleased he was being able to equip his Ford Fusion with a K&N air intake system. He had previously installed a K&N intake on both his Ford Ranger and Honda Civic and praised K&N as “the only company that listened to customers and decided to produce a CAI for the 1.5L Fusion.”

The second generation Ford Fusion offers optional EcoBoost L4 engines for car buyers looking for a little more performance with the added benefit of more miles per gallon. Ford EcoBoost technology has managed to squeeze good power and excellent fuel economy out of surprisingly small engines. The performance bug has even managed to bite Fusion owners not previously interested in aftermarket parts due to the excitement over the fun to drive EcoBoost turbocharged engines. Chris Sessions from Texas, purchased Ford Fusion air intake 63-2585, and told K&N “This is the first mod that I’ve ever done. I’ve heard that it [K&N air intake] is a great first step in modifying your vehicle but I never did. I thought it would be so sweet so I had a friend of mine install it for me due to a lack of mechanical skills, but it was extremely simple.”

K&N makes a performance air intake system for the second generation 2013-2015 Ford Fusion 2.5L, 1.5L, 1.6L, or 2.0L Ecoboost models

K&N makes a performance air intake system for the second generation 2013-2015 Ford Fusion 2.5L as well as the 1.5L, 1.6L, or 2.0L Ecoboost models

The theory behind a K&N Ford Fusion air intake system is simple. K&N engineers are able free up horsepower by reducing restriction and turbulent airflow, while also maximizing the amount of air available to the Ford Fusion’s engine. By replacing the restrictive factory intake ducting and air filter box with a free-flowing air intake tube and an oversized K&N high-flow air filter; K&N air intake systems are able to minimize restriction, while also straightening, and increasing airflow to the engine. More air and less restriction means more usable power throughout the engine’s RPM range by allowing the engine to work more efficiently. Of his K&N Ford Fusion air intake 63-2585 Douglas Dove Bryan from Ohio said “The difference in acceleration is quite noticeable, and the extra performance is GREAT! I would tell anyone this is well worth the money!” In the case of Ecoboost powered Ford Fusion models, reducing restriction and increasing airflow will help the turbo spool up quicker for improved drivability.

In addition to more power, installing a K&N air intake system will give the Ford Fusion a sportier engine sound. Better engine sound results from letting the Ford Fusion’s engine breathe easier by installing a K&N performance air intake system. A stock Ford Fusion won’t sound like a NASCAR stock car by adding a K&N air intake; however it will give the engine a deeper growl during acceleration and quiet down when cruising or at idle. As Don from Massachusetts said of his Ford Fusion intake 69-3533TTK “Another positive about this [K&N] CAI is that you only hear it when you really step on it. You don’t hear it under light acceleration or when you are just cruising which is beneficial to me because I am running about 2,200 RPM most of my commute to work.”

K&N air intake 63-2585 was dyno tested and shown to make an estimated 10.05 more horsepower on a 2013 Ford Fusion 2.0L turbo

In addition to improving Ford Fusion horsepower and acceleration, a K&N air intake system will save Fusion owners time and money on maintenance costs. K&N’s over-sized reusable air filters are fitted to the inlet of the K&N air intake tube to provide superior airflow and superior performance without sacrificing engine protection. K&N air filters are washable and reusable and can go up to 100,000 miles between cleanings, depending on driving conditions. When it is time to clean the Ford Fusion intake system air filter, it can be washed and made like new using one of the K&N Recharger air filter service kits. A K&N Recharger air filter cleaning kit contains a specially formulated degreaser and K&N air filter oil necessary to restore airflow efficiency and bring a K&N oiled cotton air filter to like new condition. When compared to purchasing disposable air filters again and again, a K&N air filter will pay for itself in just a couple cleanings.

K&N Ford Fusion performance intake systems are an easy to install performance upgrade that can be installed in about 90 minutes or less using basic hand tools. By following K&N’s simple step-by-step instructions owners of Ford Fusion models can experience increased performance while still being able to brag about their car's fuel efficiency. A K&N Ford Fusion performance air intake system maintains all necessary factory connections and does not require any additional modifications to experience a boost in performance. As Craig from Michigan said of his Ford Fusion air intake 69-3514TTK “It took about an hour to install this kit on my 2010 Fusion. It will never be a high-performance machine, but it sounds better, is a bit quicker, and my mileage went from 25.1 to 25.3 in two weeks with no highway driving.”

Every K&N Ford Fusion performance air intake system is designed and tested on a chassis dynamometer to establish that it will provide an increase in horsepower to the drive wheels of the vehicle. The K&N horsepower guarantee is simple and straightforward. As Steve Perry from Michigan said about his Ford Fusion intake 69-3515TS “The air intake arrived quickly and on time from K&N. It was packaged well and included clear instructions and a hard copy of the dyno sheet. I like that K&N actually supplies the data to support their guaranteed horsepower claim.”

If all that weren’t enough, K&N backs its Ford Fusion air intake systems with a 10-year/million mile limited warranty. K&N is confident in its products because each one will undergo rigorous testing in both laboratory and real world situations. Additionally, K&N will warrant that using our products will not result in a vehicle warranty denial. If ever a vehicle warranty department tries to deny the vehicle warranty, or blame the presence of a K&N product, please feel free to contact K&N customer service at 1-800-858-3333 and K&N will work to resolve the issue.

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) Hall of Fame routinely honors drivers who have shown exceptional skill at NASCAR driving, all-time great crew chiefs, owners, as well as other major contributors. In a similar fashion the sanctioning body highlights the future of the sport with the NASCAR Next program. “The NASCAR Next initiative spotlights the future of NASCAR, a collection of promising young talent who have shown the potential to one day reach the highest level of our sport,” said NASCAR Senior Vice President for Industry Services Jill Gregory.

At the NASCAR Hall of Fame in downtown Charlotte, North Carolina, 12 drivers were introduced as members of the 2015-16 NASCAR Next class. This new NASCAR Next class is already making its mark on the track. Included in 2015-2016 class is Cole Custer, 17, who is the youngest driver to win a race in NASCAR’s national series. Rico Abreu recently switched over from sprint car racing after winning the 2015 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals and the 2014 USAC national champion. Also included in the 2015-2016 NASCAR Next class is K&N Pro Series West driver Nicole Behar. Nicole, at just 17, holds the honor of being the highest-finishing female in the 61-year history of the series.

Nicole Behar NASCAR Driver
Kyle Benjamin NASCAR Driver

During the program’s five year history there have been 28 drivers in the NASCAR Next program. Of the 28 drivers previously selected for the program, 21 have raced in one of NASCAR’s three national series (NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series), and 11 are competing full-time in 2015. Notable NASCAR Next alumni include Kyle Larson, and Chase Elliott, who will replace NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon in the No. 24 car for 2016.

During a ceremony at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina, the following 12 drivers were formally announced as the 2015-2016 NASCAR Next class:

James Bickford NASCAR Driver

Rico Abreu (23, Rutherford, California) – A 2014 USAC national champion and winner of the 2015 Chili Bowl, he has two top-10 finishes in three K&N Pro Series East starts, his first season racing in stock cars.

William Byron NASCAR Driver

Nicole Behar (17, Otis Orchards, Washington) – Tied the series record for highest finish by a female driver in just her fifth K&N West start with her second place mark at Irwindale Event Center, and has top-10 finishes in four of six West starts.

Kyle Benjamin (17, Easley, South Carolina) – This Roush Fenway Racing developmental driver earned his first K&N Pro Series win at Bristol Motor Speedway, and is the youngest race winner in ARCA history.

Austin Hill (21, Winston, Georgia) – Had three consecutive K&N East wins, in the final two races in 2014 and the 2015 season opener at New Smyrna Speedway where he captured his first pole award and led every lap.

Jesse Little NASCAR Driver

Dylan Lupton (21, Wilton, California) – Was the 2014 K&N West championship runner up with a win at Kern County Speedway and registered 14 top-10 finishes; made his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut at Phoenix International Raceway in March 2015.

Noah Gragson, in just his third NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race, started the Napa Auto Parts Wildcat 150 in 18th place, but quickly worked his way toward the front in the number 7 Alert I.D. Ford.

By the halfway point of the NAPA Auto Parts Wildcat 150 at Tucson Speedway, Gragson was sitting in second place after briefly leading laps 62 through 69. Ryan Partridge regained the lead on lap 70 and kept the number 9 Eibach Springs/Sunrise Ford/Lucas Oil Ford in front of the pack through lap 140. Ryan Partidge and Noah Gragson swapped for the lead three times in the closing laps. An extremely late caution in the race added another twist to the plot as Gragson’s teammate Gracin Raz was able to edge past Ryan Partridge. Raz and Gragson were lined up next to one another in the final restart of the race. After the fierce door-to-door battle it would be Gragson who crossed the line first under a green-white checkered flag. Dustin Ash, another rookie, managed to get by Partridge and crossed the line third. Ryan Partridge, who led a race-high 87 laps, came in fourth with another rookie, Nicole Behar rounding out the top-five.

“It got a little hairy there at the end,” said Noah Gragson. “I gave it the restart of my life and we came out with the win.” In only his third NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race Gragson has finished in the top-five twice and in the top-ten once. Gragson’s margin of victory over his teammate in the number 27 Trinity Energy Ford was a mere .468 seconds. Gragson leads the points standing after three races, with Chris Eggleston just two points behind. Gracin Raz sits in third only five points behind his teammate Noah Gragson.

The next NASCAR K&N Pro Series race will be on May 16th at Iowa Speedway for the Casey’s General Store 150. This will be the first of two K&N East vs. West combination races of the 2015 season. “Iowa will be something I haven’t seen before. So it’s going to be nice to have this second carry into that,” said Gracin Raz after the NAPA Auto Parts Wildcat 150 in Tucson.

K&N replacement cabin air filter for 2010-2012 Ford Fusion 2.5L, 3.0L, and 3.5L models as well as the Mercury Milan, or Lincoln MKZ

A dirty or clogged cabin air filter can be the source of musty odors inside a vehicle while also impeding airflow into the passenger compartment causing heating or air conditioning problems. Replacing a cabin air filter is a simple, and important, piece of preventative maintenance that helps protect passengers and the vehicle’s heating and air conditioning system. An automotive cabin air filter is designed to capture dust, pollen, leaves and other particles front entering a vehicle’s passenger compartment.

K&N cabin air filters trap dust, pollen, debris and pollutants as well as help control mold, mildew, spores, fungus, bacteria and germs

K&N cabin air filters trap dust, pollen, debris and pollutants as well as help control mold, mildew, spores, fungus, bacteria and germs to provide clean air for the driver and passengers

A K&N washable and reusable automotive cabin air filter is the first of its kind. The ability to clean and reuse a cabin air filter is currently an exclusive feature offered by K&N in the U.S. automotive market segment. K&N washable and reusable cabin air filter VF2041 is designed as an exact replacement cabin air filter for 2010, 2011, & 2012 Ford Fusion 2.5L, 3.0L, and 3.5L models as well as the Fusion’s mechanical siblings the Mercury Milan, or Lincoln MKZ. K&N Cabin Air Filters are designed to meet factory filtration requirements and typically flow more air than the average disposable paper cabin air filter. K&N washable and reusable cabin air filters use a single layer of thermally bonded nonwoven synthetic material as a physical barrier to trap dust, pollen, leaves and other debris. With the aid of K&N’s Refresher spray, an electrostatic charge is able to help capture many types of mold, mildew, spores, fungus, bacteria and germs while helping to control odors. K&N Cabin Air Filters are built with a molded urethane frame and wire screen ensuring long life, and the ability to be cleaned repeatedly.

K&N Washable Cabin Air Filters allow owners to clean their filter as often as necessary without incurring the cost of buying disposable filters over and over again. This is excellent news for allergy sufferers, those with breathing difficulties, or vehicles operated in dirtier than normal environments. K&N recommends servicing its washable cabin air filters every 12 months or 12,000 miles. K&N Cabin Air Filters can be cleaned in a few simple steps with the K&N Refresher Kit 99-6000. Over time a K&N washable / reusable Cabin Air Filter will save 2010, 2011, & 2012 Ford Fusion , Lincoln MKZ, or Mercury Milan 2.5L, 3.0L, and 3.5L owners money when compared to purchasing disposable filters time and again. K&N is so confident in its cabin air filters that they are covered by a 10-year/100,000 mile limited warranty.
