Subaru gave its flagship model, the WRX STi, a redesign for the 2015 model year. However, Subaru chose to carry over the EJ257 intercooled and turbocharged 2.5L H4 boxer engine. Some critics are disappointed that the base model WRX would receive the cutting edge 2.0L FA20DIT engine, while the 2015 WRX STi has the same engine from the 2014 model year. For those critics Masuo Takatsu, program manager for both the base 2015 WRX and WRX STi, had this to say “I felt the STI’s weaker area was the handling side. If we didn’t have the chassis, why add more power to overwhelm it? Also, this EJ engine has proved itself in competition. It’s an engine we confidently bring to the track. The new FA-series in the WRX has not been proven in motorsports. Plus, we knew the aftermarket could supply more power to those STi owners who demanded it.”

Masuo Takatsu knew what he was talking about. He predicted the aftermarket would step in and K&N® has done so with an aesthetically pleasing and highly functional performance air intake system for the 2015 and 2016 Subaru WRX STi 2.5L H4. K&N performance air intake system 69-8007TWR produced an amazing estimated 34.32 horsepower increase at the wheels of an otherwise stock 2015 Subaru WRX STi. Dyno testing on the K&N 2015-2016 Subaru WRX STi air intake was performed to back these substantial increased horsepower claims. K&N dyno testing shows that performance air intake 69-8007TWR produced an estimated gain of 34.32 horsepower at 5,400 RPM and an estimated increase of 33.58 lb-ft of torque at a low 3,511 RPM. These numbers represent peak estimated power gains. Significant power gains were witnessed across the entire RPM range which aids in improving the driving experience even during daily driving.

The K&N air intake for the 2015-2016 Subaru WRX STi positions the reusable K&N high-flow air filter in a location near the front of the car to help pull fresh air into the engine for superior airflow and superior performance. Bringing in cooler outside air can result in more power. The K&N RU-4870 over-sized reusable air filter is fitted to the inlet of a mandrel-bent aluminum short ram air intake tube. This K&N aluminum intake tube is protected by a wrinkle-red powder coat finish chosen in order to match original equipment parts visible under the hood of 2015-2016 Subaru WRX STi models. An application specific black powder coated air filter heat shield is included in the K&N air intake system for the 2015-2016 WRX STi which helps seal the air filter from engine heat under the hood.

Rockstar Performance Garage 1973 Ford Bronco Uses K&N Carbon Fiber Intake System

Given his past on ranches and in the military, it isn’t surprising that Nic Ashby would choose a first gen 1973 Ford Bronco as a Rockstar Performance Garage project

Given his past on ranches and in the military, it isn’t surprising that Nic Ashby would choose a first gen 1973 Ford Bronco as a Rockstar Performance Garage project build for SEMA 2014

The first generation Ford Bronco was introduced for the 1966 model year as a direct competitor to the popular Jeep CJ5 as well as the early International Harvester Scout. As such, the original concept for Ford’s first compact SUV took a rugged no frills approach to styling and mechanical design. While the first generation Ford Bronco, sold from 1966 to 1977, used axles and brakes from the four-wheel-drive F100, it was an all original vehicle which had a frame, suspension, and body not shared with any other vehicle in the Ford Motor Company lineup. The early Ford Bronco’s short wheel base, solid axles, and optional V8 powertrain have made it very popular with the hardcore off-road community. Perhaps, second only to the Jeep CJ and later Wrangler models.

The Rockstar Performance Garage 1973 Ford Bronco relies on the superior airflow & superior performance of a K&N high-flow intake system to feed its Ford Racing Z363 cu-in stroker engine

Nic Ashby launched LDRSHIP designs in 2009 and by 2012 ROCKSTAR Energy Drinks and LDRSHIP designs implemented and built the first active lifestyle owned Performance Garage. Rockstar Performance Garage launched late in 2012 and combined the first true bridge between the Automotive and lifestyle markets. Nic Ashby brings a unique perspective to the automotive aftermarket. Nic grew up on horse ranches in Utah before joining the military following the tragedies of September 11th, 2001. He spent a year serving in the Iraqi desert as an ordinance specialist. When asked what an ordinance specialist does, Nic put it very simply “We found explosives, and used bigger explosives to blow them up.” Given his past, it isn’t surprising that Nic Ashby would choose a first gen Ford Bronco as a Rockstar Performance Garage project. The Ford Bronco offers the kind of utility and maneuverability that would be at home on a horse ranch in Utah, or even the Iraqi desert.

At the heart of this thoroughly modernized classic is a Ford performance racing parts Z363 cubic inch stroker engine. Ford Racing rates this 302 Windsor based small block Ford engine at 500 HP and 450 lb-ft of torque. Transplanting this high-horsepower stroker engine in the Rockstar Performance Garage Bronco was simple because it is based on the classic 302 small block Ford that was optional equipment in 1973. Nothing like original is the FAST Fuel Injection system sitting atop the BOSS 302 cast iron block and taking care of the Bronco’s fuel injection needs. For a build this epic, no run of the mill air cleaner would suffice. Nic chose to adapt a K&N carbon fiber air intake system and high-flow air filter originally designed for the Corvette ZR1 onto the Bronco. The Rockstar Performance Garage 1973 Ford Bronco exhales through dual Magnaflow Exhaust wrapped in Heatshield Products Lava Exhaust and Header Wrap which dumps just in front of the rear axle for maximum ground clearance at the rear of the Bronco.

Of course all of this performance means nothing on the trail without the proper equipment getting that power to the ground. Power leaves the engine through an automatic transmission mated to an Advanced Adaptors Atlas II transfer case. Custom drive shafts from Inland Empire Drivelines reach out the 9” third members in front and back. Inside Detroit Lockers with 5:12 ring and pinion gears turn the Nitro Gear Axle Shafts. ATX 20” Slab beadlock wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson 38x15.5R20 Baja MTZ mud terrain tires provide traction, while Wilwood brakes provide friction. Gone is the stock first gen Ford Bronco suspension. In its place are Rockkrawler Coilovers with 3-link front and dual triangulated 4-link rear suspension.

Since there’s no harm in adding a little modern comfort and convenience to the interior, Rockstar Performance Garage installed a Kicker Audio Bluetooth deck and speakers, Dakota Digital gauges, and even air conditioning via a Vintage Air A/C and Heating unit. Numerous other accessories, such as Bulldog LED lighting and a Warn 9.5xp-s winch only help further the Rockstar Performance Garage 1973 Ford Bronco’s trail readiness. Nic Ashby brought the Rockstar Performance Garage Ford Bronco, along with several other award winning builds, to the 2014 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show and it was featured in the Heatshield Products booth. K&N is excited to see what Nic Ashby and the Rockstar Performance Garage crew brings to the upcoming 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

William Byron had forged a lead of more than six seconds when the first caution of the United Sites Services 70 race came out on Lap 50 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire is over 1-mile in length and made for some fast paced racing compared to the ¼ and ½ mile tracks that many of the K&N Pro Series races take place on. William Byron, a Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender from Charlotte, North Carolina, earned the 21 means 21 Coors Light Pole Award with his fast qualifying time of 29.073 seconds at 128.229 miles per hour.

William Byron dominated right from the pole of the United Site Services 70 at the "Magic Mile" in New Hampshire. 17-year-old William Byron had forged a lead of more than six seconds when the first caution of the race came out on Lap 50. A second and final yellow came out shortly thereafter to setup a 10-lap dash to the finish. Although Scott Heckert, in the number 34 Project Lifesaver Chevrolet, got the jump on the restarts, Byron was easily able to retake control in both instances. After the race Scott Heckert said, “At the original start I thought I might get William (Byron) and ride in front of him for a while. But he pulled away.”

William Byron led 68 of the United Sites Services 70 lap race, crossing the finish line 2.623 seconds ahead of second place Scott Heckert for his fourth victory in just eight NASCAR K&N Pro Series East starts. “It was a really good race. It was only 70 laps so it was really fast paced. These big race tracks are a little bit different driving style. You have to really figure them out quickly,” said Byron.

Kaz Grala crossed the finish line in third, followed by Nick Drake and Austin Hill. William Byron’s win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway extended his lead in the championship standings to 29 points over second place Austin Hill. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will return to action July 31, 2015 with the second combination race of 2015 against the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West at Iowa Speedway.

K&N Air Filter Upgrade for Volkswagen Polo WRC Turbo, Seat Ibiza, & Audi A1 Diesel

K&N 33-3013 replacement air filter for Volkswagen Polo R WRC 2.0L Turbo, Seat Ibiza, and Audi A1 2.0 diesel

The subcompact market has a lot to offer today, much more than the small stature of a subcompact would lead you to believe. With elegant, modern styling, crisp interiors and peppy, fuel-efficient engines, it’s hard to find something not to like. One small piece of these vehicles leaves something to be desired, though. Less refined than the other components is the disposable factory air filter. However, the good news is that K&N has a refined, almost elegant, solution with the K&N 33-3013 high-flow replacement air filter.

The 33-3013 replacement air filter is an easy to install performance upgrade for the Volkswagen Polo R WRC 2.0 turbo, Seat Ibiza, and Audi A1 2.0-litre diesel models listed below. This replacement panel air filter is designed to increase horsepower and acceleration by minimizing restriction in the factory air induction system while still maintaining outstanding filtration efficiency and engine protection. The core of this design is K&N’s premium oiled cotton gauze air filter media. No longer will your engine be sucking air through a sheet of paper, instead, it’ll be breathing deeply and freely through oiled cotton.

Another benefit of the oiled cotton gauze filter media in the 33-3013 replacement air filter is that it’s washable and reusable. It never needs to be replaced. About every 50,000 miles (80,000 kilometres) or so, depending on driving conditions, simply wash and re-oil the filter using one of K&N’s Recharger® air filter service kits. K&N backs the 33-3013 replacement air filter with its famous 10-year/million mile limited warranty so you can rest assured that it’s a quality product for your polished subcompact.

The modern subcompact, or supermini, is a brilliant package of economy, performance, and elegant design and such a feat of engineering can’t be served properly by a crude disposable air filter. It demands an air filter that matches its sophistication- the K&N 33-3013 replacement performance air filter.

The K&N replacement air filter 33-3013 will fit and function properly on the models listed below:

2015 Seat Ibiza V 2.0L L4 Diesel
