A fuel filter is a critical part of vehicle maintenance and often goes unnoticed until a fuel delivery problem rears its ugly head. A fuel filter aids in screening out dirt and debris particles moving from a vehicle’s fuel tank, along several feet of fuel line, through the pump, and into the fuel injection system or carburetor. If the fuel were left unfiltered these fine particles, of rust, dirt, scale, and other foreign materials would cause rapid wear to the fuel pump and fuel injectors or even clog carburetor jets because of their rough grainy qualities. This could lead to eventual fuel pump or injector failure, fuel delivery issues and even a vehicle that will not run.

In many vehicles the fuel filter can be found in the fuel line after the fuel tank, but before the fuel pump. Often, older vehicles will use a fuel filter right before entering the carburetor, and the filter can even be built into the carburetor itself. If a fuel filter is not replaced at the manufacturer’s recommended service interval it could become clogged and cause enough restriction in the fuel flow to reduce engine performance or struggle to maintain normal operation.

A K&N Replacement Heavy Duty Diesel Air Filter is constructed with extra strength and reinforcements to withstand the harsh conditions that can be found in commercial use. Forming the basis of a K&N washable HD Diesel air filter is K&N’s Hybrid Dryflow® Air Filter media. The robust Dryflow Air Filter media is comprised of lofted non-woven synthetic fibers to create a three-dimensional medium capable of providing high airflow, dirt capacity, and filtration efficiency without sacrificing engine protection.

K&N’s rugged synthetic air filter media is pleated and placed between two powder-coated aluminum screens which is then held between a top plate or molded urethane end cap and molded urethane seal. These ends are molded into a powder-coated steel cage to help withstand extreme temperatures and pressure. This ensures that a K&N commercial grade diesel air filter will not collapse or lose its seal under the high levels of compression that may be encountered in large turbo diesel applications.

K&N sponsored WoO Sprint car champ Donny Schatz has such an extraordinary list of accomplishments in his career and can be considered one of short-track racing’s best

The World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series started in 1978 to organize the most talented sprint car racers, and has tested many competitors over the past several decades. K&N sponsored Sprint car champion Donny Schatz has amassed such an extraordinary list of accomplishments during his career, that he can be considered one of short-track racing’s best. Donny Schatz, a resident of Fargo, North Dakota, worked tirelessly to reach champion status, earning his stripes as a young rookie and climbing to the top in a sport dominated by iconic figures.

K&N Racing’s Donny Schatz scoring his 200th career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory at Grays Harbor Raceway

K&N Racing’s Donny Schatz scored his 200th career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory at Grays Harbor Raceway on Monday, September 7, 2015; becoming only the 3rd driver to do so

Donny Schatz learned the fundamentals of becoming a WoO champion by spending many grueling years chasing sprint car legends Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell and Mark Kinser around dirt tracks all across America. Meeting challenges head-on has been a true asset for K&N sponsored six-time WoO champion Donny Schatz. After capturing a pair of titles driving a sprint car owned by his family, Schatz made a seamless transition to driving for Tony Stewart Racing (TSR). Schatz has thrived under the spotlight of racing for three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart and continues to prove his thirst for success is far from quenched.

Not one to sit still K&N’s Donny Schatz spends the winter months in the U.S. racing sprint cars in Australia. Schatz’s success “Down Under” has been remarkable, as he’s won a number of major events both in the World Series Sprintcar tour and major events at Sydney Speedway, Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway in Brisbane and at Premier Speedway in Warrnambool. As a result, Donny Schatz has earned quite a following in Australia. Additionally, Schatz has expanded his stateside racing to also include Dirt Late Model competition.

Recently, Donny Schatz was informally inducted into an elite group among World of Outlaw racers. Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing’s Donny Schatz scored his 200th career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory at Grays Harbor Raceway on Monday, September 7, 2015. Donny Schatz is only the third driver in World of Outlaw Sprint Series history to earn 200 career WoO victories. Arguably Schatz is still at, or near, the peak of his career and will most certainly continue to amass victories on the way to setting additional records.

Schatz knows it’s not easy to win championships. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and the support of companies like K&N air filters. Schatz said, “You win championships by never giving up and working for everything you get. My guys work hard to give me a race car this good. Our K&N Engineering Carbon Fiber Air Box helps us achieve maximum horsepower at every race.” Find vehicle specific K&N products using the K&N Application Search, or browse K&N’s extensive offering of performance parts and racing products at KNFilters.com. K&N October 2015 Calendar Model Katie Vernola Is Also An Accomplished UTV Racer

Katie Vernola modeling in front of her Polaris RZR 900

K&N October 2015 calendar model Katie Vernola used her modeling career to save money for a Polaris RZR 900 and begin racing the Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road and Terracross series

Shortly after graduating High School K&N’s October 2015 calendar model Katie Vernola began to work modeling jobs as an easy and fun way to earn money. As a native of California’s high-desert Katie was naturally interested in the area’s highly popular recreational off-road culture. Aspiring to own a side-by-side UTV of her own, Katie continued to use her modeling gigs as an avenue to gather up the funds needed to purchase a Polaris Ranger RZR 900.

Katie Vernola earns 4th place finish in the Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Series Walker Evans RZR 900 class

Despite a broken front axle, a disintegrated front wheel bearing, and no brakes Katie Vernola earned a 4th place finish in the Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Series Walker Evans RZR 900 class

Initially, Katie had no intention of racing her new side-by-side. She simply wanted to take her Polaris RZR out to local riding areas, such as the Dumont Dunes Off-Highway Vehicle Area and the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, more commonly known as Glamis. All that changed after Katie attended a Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Series race as a spectator. Katie said, “It was love at first site, and I immediately wanted to be able to race the next race in the RZR 900 Production class.”

Katie Vernola moves forward through the chaos at Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Series Production 1000 UTV class

In the highly competitive Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Series Production 1000 UTV class K&N’s Katie Vernola was able to move forward through the chaos before crossing the finish line in 14th

From there Katie worked hard to put together a race program from scratch. She was lucky enough to gain the support of several sponsors, like K&N air filters, to chase her new-found racing dream. Katie’s first race was at Round 1 of the 2014 Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Series. In only her first race, Katie managed a top 10 finish; setting the stage for a newly discovered addiction to racing. Now Katie enjoys going to the track whenever she can for additional seat time and hopes for an opportunity to move up the ranks of short course racing.

In just the month of September 2015 Katie planned to race in both the Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Series near her home town, followed by two rounds of Terracross in Minnesota, and another Terracross double header in North Carolina. At round 6 of the Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Series Katie entered the Walker Evans RZR 900 class as well as the Production 1000 UTV class in her Polaris RZR 1000. Both of her RZR side-by-sides received new coil springs and suspension changes prior to round 6. With limited practice and a different setup, Katie was forced to become familiar with her cars during qualifying. Katie would start the Walker Evans RZR 900 and Production 1000 races from near the back of the pack.

Katie Vernola 3rd place finish at Terracross series in North Branch, Minnesota

K&N Filters’ Katie Vernola made a cross country trek to North Branch, Minnesota for rounds 3 and 4 of the Terracross series where she made it on the podium in with a 3rd place finish

Not to be discouraged, Katie looked at this as an opportunity to focus and battle through the pack. Despite a broken front axle, a disintegrated front wheel bearing, and no brakes; Katie managed to earn an incredible 4th place finish in the Walker Evans RZR 900 class. In the highly competitive Production 1000 UTV class Katie was able to move forward through the chaos before crossing the finish line in 14th. Most recently Katie made a cross country trek to North Branch, Minnesota for rounds 3 and 4 of the Terracross series. Katie made it on the podium in Minnesota with a 3rd place finish in round 3 and a 5th place finish in round 4.

Katie Vernola relies on K&N air filters and K&N oil filters to keep her Polaris RZR side-by-side racing program going strong. Additionally, keep an eye out for Katie Vernola in the upcoming October 2015 page of the K&N calendar. To find K&N performance upgrades for Polaris RZR side-by-sides, or another vehicle, use the Search by Vehicle tool.

2011-2014 Ford F150 5.0L Gets More Power with K&N 50 State Street Legal Air Intake

K&N air intake 57-2581 for the 2011-2014 Ford F150 5.0L V8 pickups

K&N air intake 57-2581 replaces factory components on 2011-2014 Ford F150 5.0L V8 pickups with a free-flowing roto-molded black HDPE air intake tube coupled to a high-flow K&N air filter

For the American muscle car enthusiast, the term “5-oh” recalls mental images of Fox Body Ford Mustangs produced by Ford from 1978 to 1993. While a 5.0-liter displacement V8 engine was found in several GM cars during that same era, Ford practically owns the rights to using 5.0 on the side of its vehicles. As a corporate engine the 302 cubic inch (5.0L) Windsor V8 also found its way into the best-selling Ford F150 pickup. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end and the “5-oh” Windsor block was phased out in favor of the 4.6L Modular Ford V8. Yet another saying goes something like, “what goes around comes around.” For the 2011 model year Ford brought back the 5.0-liter V8 engine. This new Coyote V8 motor was highly advertised in the Ford Mustang, but managed to find its way into the Ford F150 despite Ford’s focus on the 3.5L Ecoboost V6.

K&N air intake 57-2581 for the 2011-2014 Ford F150 5.0L V8 pickups

Found in the Mustang, but tuned for high-torque output, the 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 Ford F150 5.0L Coyote V8 motor is designed to be a tough and dependable work horse

The 2011-2014 5.0L V8 equipped Ford F150 doesn’t benefit from the same level of performance as the Ford Mustang, however, it can still hold its own. Tuned for high-torque output, the F150 Coyote motor is designed to be a tough and dependable work horse. Of course, there is never any harm in increasing performance. Whether needed for towing, hauling a heavy load, or simply passing a slow moving truck, the K&N street legal air intake system for 2011-2014 Ford F150 5.0L V8 models will provide owners with superior airflow and superior performance. K&N air intake 57-2581 replaces the restrictive factory induction components found on 2011-2014 Ford F150 5.0L V8 pickups with a free-flowing roto-molded black HDPE air intake tube coupled to a high-flow K&N air filter.

Dyno Chart for K&N air intake 57-2581 for the 2011-2014 Ford F150 5.0L V8 pickups

K&N street legal intake 57-2581 was dyno tested in-house by K&N filters and shown to provide a 2011 Ford F150 5.0 with an estimated additional 12.05 street-legal horsepower & 12.76 lb-ft of torque

This combination of increased airflow, reduced restriction, less turbulence, and an application specific air filter heat shield allows the F150 V8 engine to breathe easier. Reducing the amount of effort needed to breathe, while also increasing airflow, adds up to impressive gains in street-legal horsepower and torque for 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 Ford F150 5.0L V8 pickups. K&N street legal intake 57-2581 was installed on an otherwise stock 2011 Ford F150 5.0L V8 and dyno tested in-house by K&N filters. The result was an estimated additional 12.05 street-legal horsepower and 12.76 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels of an already built Ford tough pickup. No additional modifications or tuning are required to experience an increase in power from K&N 50-state legal air intake 57-2581.

Air filter RC-5173 for the K&N air intake 57-2581 for the 2011-2014 Ford F150 5.0L V8 pickups

Besides increasing performance, K&N air intake 57-2581 can help 2011-2014 Ford F150 5.0 V8 owners spend less time and money on routine maintenance with washable air filter RC-5173

Besides increasing performance, a K&N air intake system can help Ford F150 owners spend less time and money on routine maintenance. K&N 50-state legal intake system 57-2581 includes a washable / reusable K&N high-flow air filter, number RC-5173. The pleated cotton design, and large size allows this air filter to go up to 100,000 miles between cleanings. When it becomes time to clean the air filter, using a K&N Recharger® air filter service kit will make it function virtually like new. The durable made in the USA construction of RC-5173 means it will likely be the last air filter your 2011-2014 Ford F150 5.0 V8 will need. K&N backs its high-flow air filters, and performance air intake systems with a 10-year/million mile limited warranty to give K&N users peace of mind.

2014 Ford F150 5.0L V8 F/I
2013 Ford F150 5.0L V8 F/I
2012 Ford F150 5.0L V8 F/I
